Posted this on fjcruiserforums.com but realize that some of you guys don't venture over there.

After gouging my factory alloys on rocks... I put the steel wheels back on - after painting them to match the Ti body. Also went with BFG ATs (letters out) for that full-retro look.

Looks great on your rig. I wonder what my Sand Storm would look like with that kind of setup. I still have my alloys and they don't look to bad yet from trail damage.

I like how you got your grill surround painted white. that is on my list of things to do

Thanks IB14A69 - on the Silver, the bezel blends too much... the white also ties the roof in a bit
Zardoz - the Sand Storm would ROCK. Of all the colors, I think the SS would look the best done in the retro (painted wheels, white bezel) theme. I wish I had done the steel wheels before *$&#ing up one as bad as I did.

anyone know how much those stock steelies run? Mine came with the alloys.. but i think i prefer the look of the steelies. Was thinking of going with black steelies or buying some teflon coated rims. My FJ40 has the orignal grey steel wheels with hubcaps - looks sweet. Of course i will say that though, it's mine.

Search failed...are the steelies 16" or 17"?

Thanks

I wish the steelies had a bit more style to them. They remind me of the tires on my wifes old Mercury Topaz when you take the hubcpas off. Just generic rims, with the little holes all around. I'd like to see a heavy steal spoked rim, maybe white ones like 40's had in later years. Or just solid for that matter.

I actually like that the style is so simple - and they are the same wheels that Toyota uses under hub caps (15s, 16s - same wheel). Gives it that genuine retro/utility look.

Side shot... sorry about the tire gloss - won't happen again. ;)

Your FJ is one of the best looking I have ever seen. I would like to see a tan one done the same way. Toyota should have come up with this paint scheme on their on.

Thanks - and I agree... not the "best looking" comment ;) but that an Sand Storm would look amazing done this way. If I were a patient man, I would've waited a couple months (bought my FJ in July) and it would be tan with tan wheels! But, I'm not patient... and still love my FJ.
