Cool Cruisers says of 1976-83 that "All nuts/bolts and much of the FJ40 hardware is re-plated to its original factory look with a non-corrosive yellow zinc plating." I found some threads here that mentioned painted hardware, but I believe they were talking about older trucks. It was painted before, though I'm not sure that was the original paint job.

Like the rest of life, It's not a black and white situation. Using a '79 as an example, the stainless hardware on the windshield hinges, hood hooks and windshield hooks would have been bare. The front and rear door hinges and hood hinge bolts would have all been painted with the truck.

Are you asking if all the equipment was either painted or plated? It depends, I have an '82 and could probably tell you, but you need to ask for specific items.

65swb45 is correct for an 82

It seems to me that all the OEM hardware I've removed from my truck was plated, even those that were subsequently painted body color. So, is the question which fasteners were painted, and which were left 'natural plated finish'?
