Oxygen Sensor survey (1 Viewer)

My 98 lost the front left at 152,000 miles and my 99 has already had the same replaced. So for a totally non-scientific poll, how many have changed which sensor?
I've made multiple answers possible so if you've replace more than one.

Here are the codes and locations as per FSM
DTC P0135 Bank 1 Sensor 1 = Drivers side/ Left side (USA) front sensor
DTC P0141 Bank 1 Sensor 2 = Drivers side/ Left side (USA) rear sensor
DTC P0155 Bank 2 Sensor 1 = Passenger side/ Right side front sensor
DTC P0161 Bank 2 Sensor 2 = Passenger side/ Right side rear sensor

One of my Sensor 1's (fore of cat) went out at about 110k miles, can't remember which side. I replaced both sensor 1's in hopes of getting better mileage. No change though.

Ha! If your luck is like mine it will. I commented about wheel spin in a thread and breaking the front diff doing that. Then that weekend mine broke. However, unlike me the O2 sensor replacement is a 5 minute job. The diff took me a whole month, getting parts, having time to do it, etc... And save yourself the headache, buy the oxygen sensor wrench at your local auto parts store for $8-10. It makes it a very easy job. Much better than changing them on an 80 series.

From my observations, to keep your rig top performance and for better gas mileage it is good practice to replace O2 sensors every 75K miles, even CEL does not warn you about.
At that age they do not provide adequate feedback to ECU. Sensor has four wires and connector: two wires serve for O2 sensor itself and two – for heater. Most common failure is blown heater element, integrated to sensor. When sensor temperature suddenly comes down (cold water splash or even air stream at high speed) the sensor will trigger CEL on your dash. Front sensors only have a heater (They are on manifold before Catalytic converter and responsible for correct fuel mixture). Rear sensors have different shape with flanges. (They are behind Catalytic converter and serve for Emission control record).

I got the P0135 code a couple weeks ago and ordered two new front Denso O2 sensors and replaced both last week. So far, no difference in gas mileage or performance, but at least the CEL is out now. Still getting 17 mpg on 87 Octane in CA on 163,000 miles. I wouldn't waste my money on replacing them again if I don't get an O2 sensor code.


Best price I found for the fronts for Denso OEM Replacements was under $60 each on Amazon.

I'll have to do a write up on replacement on the two front ones I changed since I was able to take decent pictures. Took about 45 minutes to replace both fronts and take pictures.

PO155 - Passenger Side Front at 157k on a 2000. Part Number - 89465-50150

Took 25 minutes. The piece on the connector that snaps into body bracket was broken so I had to zip tie the wires to the bracket.

22 MM open end wrench for the O2 sensor.

Removing and re-installing the re-enforced plastic skid plate took the most time. I think that those bolts were all 12 MM.

Had to disconnect the battery to get the CEL to go off. It may come back on since it was not cleared with a tool. Hopefully not since the new O2 sensor is installed.

Ramps would have been very helpful along with a low roll dolley. Sliding on asphalt does not really work, had to throw out the t-shirt.

i did both fronts at about 135k just so they wouldn't surprise me. Changed the coil packs and plugs at the same time. No difference in mileage, just peace of mind.

One of my fronts just went out yesterday and now the light is getting pretty irritating! I got used to the CEL being on in my old 80 but not the hundy! I'll have to figure out tomorrow which side it is and get that taken care of....

Autozone read the code for free down here in NC. They had a universal O2 sensor however I wanted OEM.

As Luck would have it, a day after reading this thread my CEL light goes on

So I run the diag check so it says Bank 1 sensor 1. I knew this day would happen b/c I have 195K on the rig. So I'm not that upset about it. I would like to know if someone could tell me where exactly this is and could an amateur do the job? Also is there any parts that need to come off in order to get to it? I also read about a specific wrench for this job is this necessary? It seems like a pretty easy straight forward job all opinions appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help.
