G'day,

I thought this would be a place that would appreciate this photo: it is a 1965 hard top FJ45 in Adelaide, South Australia. It is not my truck, but it belongs to a mate of mine (as does the HJ47 behind it). The truck was sold brand new by his father at their dealership, and he bought it back from the original owners in Coober Peedy, South Australia.

My mate then restored it to perfection, buying the rims and hub caps when he was visiting LA. The truck had done over 300,000 miles (Australia did not go to the French measurement until the 70s), but had absolutely no rust at all. The truck is joy to drive, and it is even better to look at.

Cheers,

Josh

G'day,

This is a rig which was for sale here in Adelaide a while ago, and the owner told me that a 'Seppo' bought it (Aussie for an American). I thought I would post it here, and see if anyone knows who bought it.

Cheers,

Josh

1981 hj47

G'day. Mine's a 1981 HJ47 troopy. With an extra side door (not sure who installed it) ... Picked her up about 8 months ago, have rebuilt the rear axle, and put on a new bullbar, I plan on doing a proper restoration next year some time. There's a bit of rust in the body, and the gearbox needs a new synchro for 1st (pops out of gear - scary when in low range going down a steep slope ) but is otherwise perfect! Her name's "old Yella" - she's my pride and joy :D

Technically it is English, as 'Seppo' is Cockney rhyming slang: 'Septic Tank' rhymes with 'Yank', 'Shut yer north and south' rhymes with 'shut your mouth', 'on the dog n' bone' rhymes with 'phone.' And my favourite: 'Trouble and strife' rhymes with 'wife'. Not so much insulting as playful. Some makes much less sense. 'To have a butchers' at something comes from 'Butchers hook' which rhymes with 'look'. So you see, it is actually alot of fun.

My grandmother-in-law here in Australia is a 90 year old Cockney who can rhyme up a storm. She is brilliant. My wife, who is a dinki di Aussie (as far as I know, 'dinki di' is a fair dinkum Aussie expression) can give a good run at rhyming slang, but she is left for dead by her Nan.

Cheers,

Josh
