Your 80 looks awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like after getting the sliders, bumper, and tires mounted!

I like the Line-x. I am back and forth on doing my 248k mile 1993. I think I want it in Tan though. Probably do one of the DIY products (Al's). Don't understand all the worrying about the paint on here. If I were going to fret about pristine paint I'd have bought a Highlander.

Just a question though, do you think you could paint the Line-x? I want to de-flare and I had thought of Line-X to cover the holes, then spraying it the color of the body so it would end up looking like it just has some sort of rock guard applied.

Awesome

Owen,

I, like many others, are shocked you line-x'd so early, but i must say it looks wicked! I am looking to do that to mine before too long hopefully (though my paint is way worse). Super jealous of your build and i can't wait till those awesome things are in my budget :) Can't wait to see pics. Keep it up man!

i think you have this question because you dont know the answer? so that would mean you have no idea how some people (who are complete strangers, like myself) do what they do and have what they have which makes sense to me because i've never told you about myself before. when reading your reply it sounds, to me, like you think im a rich jerk and even maybe got pretty annoyed seeing how quickly ive gotten some of the parts i've acquired, for that i'm sorry. for me its pretty simple, i'm able to have this as a project because currently i can afford it. years ago even though i wanted to i couldnt so that why this build thread just started. i do my best to live within my means and being patient, i think that is a key part of me finally being able to have this build thread...

I'm not hatin' on your truck man, just surprised at what mods you did 5 days after you got it. I would think you'd want to do a baseline first, get to know the truck and how it handles, etc and then start going from there.
I am really surpised by the numebr of threads i see on here lately where people get a "new to them" 80 series and then proceed to dump $6000 worth of parts into it within a couple week's time....

Awesome job on the Line-X! I like it, but most importantly, YOU LOVE IT! Im just itching for some more pics! :-)

I have to say that I really don't like tan as a color on most things but fir some reason really like it on the fjs, so I like the way you think

Honestly I don't know how well paint would stick to line x I think somebody who knows more could give you a beter answer, one thing that I thought was really cool, which your referring to is that to plug a whole they simple put strong tape over the hole then spray the line x, so simple and very affective. Just for fun I pressed on a hole that was covered and it feels just as solid as the rest of the body, I'll ask my friend at the shop and get his opinion on painting over it and get back to you...

Cool man ya no problem, ive hard my eyes on an 80 for many years and Ive pretty much that entire time knew a lot of the exact parts I wanted to get. I actually received a few parts before I picked up the truck so that's also how the build is moving along "smoothly"

Great rig.. Its not a Car... :-)

got a little more work done today and yesterday, put the lift on, mounted wheels/tires and put the rear bumper and the sliders on...

Looks sexy as hell. Are the swing outs lined also??? Will they work with liner on them?

All that black and you turn the white letters out??? :-)

atleast right now i dont really want any swing out, i even took the roof rails off so in myu opinion itd have a smoothy more streamline look/feel, i like the big front bumper then everything else o be pretty low key and discreet but i'm not saying never

i actually did that purposely to give a little contrast as well as the orange rear shackles, i think that it breaks it up a little and im happy with that choice though originally i was thinking to turn them around

Ow3n, truck looks great! "perfect" factory paint is all well and good until you actually wheel the truck and scratch the body.. A buddy of mine did the same on his 85 4runner, and it was amazing the rigidity that the (duroback) added. Is that a slee rear bumper?

ya i've been so impressed with this stuff so far, cant seem to hurt it

rear bumper is the iron pig off road bumper, its just that it doesnt have any swing out cans or tires so it looks kinda plain which is why i like it, it came unpainted to i painted it with some hurculiner i had laying around

I want to line mine..just worried about how hot it will get here in the south being all black. Your rig looks great!

i thought about that as well, for me wasnt too much of a concern because of my location/use but i'm definitely expecting some hotness the touch

Fender gaskets

Did you remove the fender gaskets between the fender and the body or did you line-x over them? Looks great!! I really want to do this to my truck!! I know your friend did it but could you give us an idea on the cost? Also what kind of prep went into it before the procedure? Thanks in advance!!

essentially nothing was removed just a lot of masking, so we def just sprayed over the fenders. covering up any holes is super easy, just cover the hole with a strong tape (i like gorilla tape) and then it just gets sprayed over, we masked from the side windows gutter to the bottom of the wondos and the entire legnth, and took out the side marking lights cuz that is super easy then taped up all the other lights, i had the enitre grill and chrome headlight surround done so we also covered the engine side of the grill so not to spray the radiator or anything. this is as good as a guess as i can make from what i took part in and learned, if you were to do all the prep work yourself i think you might be able to get away with giving them $2,000. i think if your sincere about it search online at line x's website, locate a local dealer and give them a call, they maybe even did a truck or suv before (i heard that some places have really only ever done beds and small jobs) but they should be able to give you a better idea of price...
