I've seen a lot of rigs heading through town for the Expo today, met a "guided" trip on the FS300 Rd just out of town with half dozen rigs. I think they are shooting all the way across, good times...

Here's a pic @cmkzLCmama took today of a guy on a scooter headed there, up by Sunrise turnoff.

Yep, lotta rigs in town. Kept me rubbernecking at work. Several Earth Roamers, Toyotas, Jeeps, Sportsmobiles, the Turtle, dual sport bikes, Rovers, even a Patrol. Here was the lineup outside of Peace Surplus for the Beer and Gear "Pre-party."

Will be there Thursday afternoon

I will be camping Friday around Clints Well and check out the expo on Saturday. Not going to stay too long Saturday, I want to take the kids hiking around the rim; I hope to see some Csc members represent!

Did anyone see a FJ45 pickup at the expo? Heading back from up north driving 260 torward Camp Verde. Came around a corner and there was FJ45 on a car hauler pulled over to the side. By the time I realized what it was we were past it. Think it was missing the hard top and red.

Make it to EXPO on Saturday compared to previous years it seems to be less organized and loosing some popularity on the vehicle end but gaining on the moto side. The one thing I thought did improve were the bathrooms and food.
Thoughts?

Woof. That wind. I was there from last Wednesday until last night.
We had lightening strikes in the beginning with tons of mud. (1 strike was close to some other employees and they weren't feeling right for a day) In the end it all dried out, but the wind never really stopped.
The BFG Semi got suck again so I got to dig it out and Nena pulled it with her Dodge. (It drove in while it was muddy and then the mud dried locking the trailer wheels).
All in all a good one. Numbers aren't final, but it sounds like it broke all of the records for attendance and vendors by quite a bit. Glad it helped make up for the last 2 that were a mess.

Fingers crossed for Asheville...

I saw that fj45 on the car hauler heading east towards Clints Well today around noon. It appeared in route to Expo. Looked to be in good shape, all original from the quick glance.

Interesting, It was on 260 heading west torward Camp Verde. It was in a pull out just before the steep grade where the three rumble strips are cut into the pavement. May have been pulled over realizing they opps and made the wrong turn. This was around 11:30. Does seem odd they would be headed to the expo Sunday afternoon. May have been someone who just bought it and headed home and got lost.:meh: Twenty years ago when I was on the hunt for a pickup I could find one for sale in AZ. Since a few have popped but didn't see anything lately but also not looking either.

Agree the winds were really strong. Reminds me of Ashurt Lake on Anderson Mesa. I fished there a lot in the Seventies. Could count one hand the number of times the wind wasn't howling during the day.

Didn't try the food as we brought our own. Bathrooms were better, nicely distributed around and more convenient. We didn't stay too long, was very windy. I definitely noticed the large Moto section.

I didn't make it to last year's mudfest, but I went the couple years before that. It seemed to me that the event was almost twice the size it's been in the past. Definitely more vendors. We didn't walk through the moto section due to lack of interest. The parents only got a couple of corn dogs, and I stuck with my usual fare. I didn't see that many other food options, but I didn't look real hard.

Went to expo Saturday. Super windy, a bit crowded. Very pet friendly, lots of dogs including my own. The lack of trash cans anywhere was amazing. There were 4 food vendors near the arena, we just got a couple hot dogs.

So you found someone selling chicken in a zip lock bag mixed with salsa? LOL

Well, my 10th Overland Expo is in the books.

Here are a few photos from the weekend. I started out pretty well, but once we got busy with classes it's tough to find time to take photos.
Great weekend, so many great friends. None of which I got to talk to as much as I'd wished, just like every year.

Playing around with my cross axle area trying to make it extreme enough to be challenging and easy enough to not break people's trucks!

The other main obstacle for the Cross Axle and left foot breaking class was great. In the mud it may have been a bit too challenging, but thankfully by Friday this all dried up.

Myself, Nick, Graham, Jayston and Ken's Camel truck. Prepping away.

The mud was almost as nasty as last year just a couple days before the expo.
Sugar/Crum Doughnut anyone?

I feel like there is a period missing somewhere... (Inside the Tithonus 110)

Fun wheels for the event.

This old synthetic line has seen a lot of years and a lot of abuse.

The flagpole is dug 6 feet into the ground. It didn't keep me from wondering if it would fall during some of the stronger gusts though.

Starting to fill in.

Sidehill winching prep dry run.
