Yup that's the trip and 40 I was talking about. Seemed like a nice guy, think his girl was a little upset about sitting in a mud soaked seat for the rest of their trip.

at least he had a snorkel ;)

Great pic, hiked right by where that pic was taken last weekend!!!! How would our mud members rate Broken Arrow, with and without the plunge??

First, you should probably, wait, definitely have a lift or it's going to be scratch and dent city. Second, it's a lot of fun and can be a little challenging your first time--after your first time it's old hat but your friends will all get a scream out of it. That's always fun. After the "round- about" area there's rock you go down that is very steep and most everyone will pinch out a diamond, that's fun. I usually circle back and climb up the same way we went down and that freaks everyone out, but good times. Then, the Devils staircase is slippery and so I consider it dangerous, go slow and follow the path and you're going to be great. The first time you go you will rate it four stars out of five due to the technical effort you have to give it. After that it's probably a solid three star, but everyone you take will love it.

I have a Dave Gore reverse shackle/3-4 inch lift. I believe the Man-a-Fre safari kit is what is on my rig....

Also, don't forget to air down.

Thx for the input......I hear there is a bail line on the way back that avoids the plunge/staircase....

I don't know if there is a bail out path, never considered it; but, make sure your brakes work, it's a fun trail and if you need a spotter ask someone to help you with your lines. The Devils Staircase is just one of many sections that has a steep incline/decline. Take your time there and enjoy it.

I will be there camping Thursday & Friday weather depending, I would prefer not to camp at the event but somewhere close by if anyone has any suggestions...I have stayed at the Apache Maid cabin once before but am not really to familiar with Mormon Lake area.

There are a few campgrounds at Mormon Lake. Not sure of any FS cabins like the one at Apache Maid close by. Ashurst Lake has a campground not too far away but no services that I recall. Believe at the turn off FS 3 to Ashurst lake there is a campground with services. Not sure it it will open before Memorial Day Weekend. Their is open camping in the surrounding forest as well. When my kids were young use to camp just south of Mormon Lake on the east side of FS 3. My folks would use their motor home and was easy excess in and plenty of flat areas for camping. That was probably twenty years ago as all my kids are in their thirties now. Looks like I be in the area for a short weekend but no free time to head over.

Here from TacomaWorld and glad to find this thread. Im looking forward to seeing some local LCs at the expo.
We have a fairly large group from all over the US heading to the Expo from TW. This will be my 2nd year and im hoping it doesn't snow/rain again.

The weather is looking like it will be in the 80s during the day and low 40s at night. No rain in the forcast........yet.

Im heading up Friday afternoon with my close friend and Avid Off-road owner Brandon. We are meeting a pile of TacomaWorld members and will camp offsite.
If all goes well and I get to the Expo in time Friday to get my fill of all the toys, we will be heading out to explore Saturday morning.
I was thinking Sedona but ive already done Broken Arrow and its sure to be an absolute cluster of Pink Jeeps and Expo visitors all weekend.
Does anyone here have the local scoop on good places to expore that weekend?

@2ndGenJonny ; it is not any crawling type of wheeling, but the route from Ashursrt Lake to Kinnikinnick Lake is very remote and not regularly traveled. Route finding is not too hard either. Water sources, early spring flowers, elk, deer, antelope, views... I would recommend it. You can download the Coconino NF maps from their website. Much of the route is rocky, very rutted two track, possibly muddy, esp near Ashursrt Lake. There are side routes to other lakes and wetland areas to explore.

Grand Falls - One of the most unknown/overlooked cool spots in northern AZ.

Have you been there lately? Would think most the spring run off is done. Best time to see it when during the spring run off. Not sure how much flow the the Little Colorado River has the rest of the year.:meh:

Not been there lately but all that is needed is rain.
