So... I am pleased as punch with my HJ61... and I was thinking that the wife might look good in a Prado. Question is, how are the smaller diesels to work on, and where do you get parts?

I have found ample part suppliers for the 12HT, and i know the 13BT isn't be a prob either. But both of these motors, and units were sold by Toyota at some point in the Canadian market as non turbos, and of course both motors have a huge fan following.

What is the parts availability for the 2.0, 2.4, 2.8 liter diesels, and other Prado chassis parts? Anyone know?

yep, i know... what exactly do you want to know?

The 2.4 liter 2L-T was an official Canadian import from about 1984 through 1987 so if that's your Prado engine you should have parts support from the local dealer!

But the 2LTII is a very differnent engine from its predecessor so if you are buying an 88 or later beware that you'll be relying on non dealer parts. That being said, I find that diesel engine parts are something I order very very rarely. Toyota diesels need maintenance parts (common) and adjustments (easy) and that's about it. When you decide to do glow plugs or injectors you oder the parts from overseas if nessesary and wait a while. No biggie.

I want to know that if I import one of these for her, I'll be able to repair it. If the parts are a mish mash from other Toyota vehicles... no prob. But if they are specific to Prado's... where do you source them from. There does not seem to be a network of parts easily accessible. I would ask the same about a Hilux or Surf if I were thinking of bringing one over... although chassis parts would be easier to come by right off the bat. Same chassis for the Prado????

I know you are bringing one in Wayne. I will be interested to learn more about it once its here. Good size for the wife. Just gotta remove the rear seats so she can see!

I think Toyota Canada stopped the Diesels in the mini trucks in '86... think they would still cary parts for it?? Go Toyota!

the 2LT-E is a unique engine by itself used for 3 years befor ethey went to the K series (someone correct me if i am wrong here). they are more powerful than the 2LT but at the same time more complex.
i am setting up fo access to all the parts that will be needed, i.e. fuel, oil and air filters and anything else that becomes apparent once this one arrives. i am also looking into bringing in parts trucks LJ78, once the Ontario branch is open then we will be stocking parts both here and there.
the brakes are easy enough, axles on the front are basic te rears are off set simular to the cruisers so the actual shafts will need to be sourced. clutches and trannies, t/cases will be no problem.
i hope this helps somewhat...
cheers

yes, we are opening the branch this coming month so we can provide better service and high quality units to the eastern side fo the country. all the units will be shipped here for inspection and for quality control, then they will be shipped east.

cheers
