Has anybody else done this?

Toybox with a 2.3 I assume?

What tranny?

not a bad setup.

Expensive tho..

I was due to replace my DD after 12 years. I decided I could get another couple of years out of it and have a fun toy to play with instead.

Cramer threw together a set for a friend out here. I cannot remember if it was behind a 465 or 420 though. Seem to remember that it ended up somewhere around 300+:1. Silly low. Maybe he will chime in with some 1st hand experience Since they played with it in the Black Hills.

Steve??

Any better pictures of the linkage? I'm still struggling with how to do that.

Who did the mod to the Orion so it would accept the toy box?

c......r.......a.......w........l That's going to be an extremely low ratio. Get at it though and have fun.

"Who did the mod to the Orion so it would accept the toy box?"

what mod would be needed? you might have to grind a spot for the toybox shifter fork..
A toybox can come with a 10spline output shaft so no needed changes.

This is the modification to the case that needs to be done....

Ball carbide bit in a die grinder.... no big deal.

PM me a number to call you at, and I will gladly explain what I did to the shifter to lengthen it. It works great. Stephen is VERY happy with the 465/2.28 Toybox and Orion combo. 313:1 low range w/5:29's in the diffs.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

The real POSER? I like him, cool dude.

As for 313:1, no thanks. I would HATE wheeling with someone doing that.

My 200:1 is bad enough..

;)

I don't intend to use both at the same time.
Most of my off road driving in the past has been in 4-LO with the stock gears. I made the mistake of riding along on Fordyce with a friend, now I want to do tougher trails. I did a lot of reading and decided the Orion case was my best option for lower gears since it also addresses the broken t-case boogy monster. But I didn't want to give up cruising gears for the lighter sections of trail. So I liqueured up Mrs Rusty and convinced her that we couldn't get by without a Toy Box and the Orion T-Case.

Just kidding about the liqueuring up Mrs Rusty part, but I will by kissing butt into the year 2525. :D

I like being able to have the old low range in it, and then get silly low for things...it is not as if that is the only range that it can crawl in...

REAL POSER? Ha ha ha....

I'll second that. Just got off the phone with him. It's rare that somebody will take the time to help out a stranger.

Too damn funny Dan!

You will like it. Having the option to have a normal low, and then a monkey low is a great option!

Good luck!

May as well get an Atlas at that cost..

4 speed question aside, it is my understanding the O/P offsets are different. So in addition to the cost of the Atlas case there would be the cost of axles, steering linkage etc. Or did I miss something, again  .
