just a rear axle.
The atlas can be PS or DS drop.

rear is centered..

4 speed question aside, it is my understanding the O/P offsets are different. So in addition to the cost of the Atlas case there would be the cost of axles, steering linkage etc. Or did I miss something, again  .

The Atlas has a centered rear output...You would need to fabricate shift linkage and a rear axle...something like this poser did...

So you need to
1- Modify you LC rear, that sounds like fun.
2- Replace it.
It still seems like the TB/Orion is a better option.

" better " for some...

That is all up to whoever is building it, and what the intended use will be...

I like knowing that I am not going to break a Land Cruiser transfer case, or twist off a Land Cruiser transfer case output shaft. Having seen this happen to trucks far lighter than mine, on trails of no significance compared to the rocks I like to play on, I am glad that I no longer have one in my truck, along with not running fing birfields...

Good luck!

Good point, I'd modify that further.

Better choice for me at this time.

Given my history with other passtimes I'll probably do it all over again someday and do it totally different.

BTW no fing Birfields in my rig, Longfields. :D I told you I was throwing money at this rig. :D

where that nose cone come from ? is it one of Warden's ? Got any more , Poser , Kurt , Dan , anyone ?

Yes that is one of Wardens fine pieces of art....

I installed them on the Orions for the Orange and Yellow trucks, and have one on my three-speed case that I removed from the Red truck for the Atlas...

Right now, I do not want to sell it John, Sorry.

how'd you get 3 of em . Give it to me , now , hurry , before it rusts. That atlas is gonna break and you'll need money to fix it. C'mon , it just aint right to have that on a stock case , it belongs on an orion , mine . Damn it man , let me have it . C'mon , everyone has a price , throw somethin out there maybe I'll bite.....

the Wardens billet nose cone is nice, but IMO not worth it....protect the nose with a proper skid plate from ANY contact, and it'll survive fine...

Know what a busted rear coarse pinion looks like? the front t-case output looks exactlee the same when it breaks...been there, done that.....the "oh so weak" stock cone was just fine.

I broke my stock nose cone last year in the Hills...someplace before Flat Nasty....figured it was from suspension droop/being forced downward, trying to pull it off the case, as the top ears were broken...and the shaft was fine....

But those two Caterpillar bolts held the cone on, and I ran the trail, and drove it back to camp...

Yep, I have seen the ears bust and crack the cone on a few cases as well. You can protect the nose with a skidplate, but what about when the d-shaft is sitting on a rock and appling upward pressure on the case. That will crack before the pinion does.

I'm taking my chances. I can what-if all day long, and never hit the trail. When it fails I'll know the weak point. I did the research, I made the best choices I could. When it's all done and I beat the crap out of it I'll know if I did it right. If not I'll try again. Isn't that half the fun?

The more time I put into building my rig the more I realize working on it is almost as much pleasure as driving will be. Or did I miss something, again. :)

I love working on vehicles.... so much fun!

Birth of a flywheel...

160lb chunk of cast ductile/knodular iron

Roughed in at about 60lbs

The RA60 has a long bellhousing, that is why the piece is 2.9" thick, the backside of the flywheel will be hollowed out.

Okay I'm stupid ignorant explain what you are doing and how it relates to the Orion + Toy Box subject. If it isn't on topic I still want to know wtf you are doing. :D

heavy ass flywheel for torque?

i was guessing he had to make a new fly wheel to mate the taco 6 speed. by the way dude....awesome freakin project...

it depends on what you want. a heavier flywheel = more rotationsl mass = harder to stall = or harder to rev ;)

lighter flywheel = spins faster, easier to stall tho..

Lighter is probably better with stupid low gears.
