On an OEM tailgate what was the original wire routing location for the license plate light wires?

Thanks
Scott

The wire is run from the sill up. A grommet in the sill where the wire comes thru it. This will be directly under the license plate bracket. If this is a mid 74 and later with the new style license plate holder I'm not sure but I think it is probably run the same way.

Do you happen to have a picture? I have an earlier style tailgate, but there were no holes in the tailgate for the wires to pass through. I also figured since the tailgate drops it couldn't have been routed like the door configuration since it would just leave the wires exposed. I haven't been able to locate a picture of the stock tailgate routing, so if you happen to have one that would help a bunch.

Thanks

Thanks for the image, no wonder I couldn't find any holes in the tailgate. Now I am going to have to decide if I want to do the same thing, or find a way to route it up the chain, but either way thanks for the input and pictures.

I really didn't like the exposed wire but it makes more sense than running it on the inside of the tailgate. With it open you would have to be careful when loading and unloading you didn't catch the wire. Putting a cover over it it will then make it hard to slide anything like camping gear in the back. Putting a cover over the wire on the back will make it more noticeable. So I left mine just the way it came. Another option is use a FJ25 license plate bracket if you can fine one. It mounts on the driver's side rear corner. Of course then you have to worry about ripping it off everytime you drive by a branch.

Your right, having it run across the inside wouldn't be that great of an idea since I will have kids, gear, etc... that will be going in and out of the back, and I don't want the wire to run on the outside, I guess the stock location was and still is the best option for functionallity and looks. I will just have to find a way to make the connections easy to get to when I want to remove the tailgate for the amby doors.

Thanks for the reply
Scott
