Remove the door hinges and weather strip metal around the outer edge of the door, there may be a scrap of the original material there. ;)

Pulled the doors hinge off to look, it was clack canvas!

They made models red with black doors?

here is a photoshop pick:

I dunno if this looks that great...
Thoughts?

i like the od green :) ...odd black canvas huh...thats a first.

how many miles on that truck? it could have had a replacement top put on at somepoint in its life? where is the PO? :) when you need to ask these questions :)

haha point taken ;)

35k miles on the motor.
You can barely hear it at an idle, like a sewing machine.

Looks black around the hinges, i will know more when i take the doors apart.
I like the OD green as well :)

if you un screw the 3 bolts that hold the male side of the door hinge...there should even be a quite large piece still under it...it wouldnt hurt anything to unbolt and check... :D

I just switched over from my hard doors to my fst doors just tonight...and was thinking...i wonder if destin has canvas still under the hinge bolts :)

do you have contact w/the po at all? sorry if this was covered before...i cant remember...sometimes they even have pictures of when it was like new :)

The OD does look the most natural with that red...nice work on the photoshop :hillbilly:

Those your new tires already mounted? How do they ride?

I will pull it open after work tonight and see for sure hehe :)
I emailed the previous owner last night as well, to see if he has any old photos as well.

Also looking for the door seal ( the one that runs behind the metal channel around the door ), and new wing window seals. The parts are very likely discontinued, so i am guessing i should check out a rubber fab place?

thanks again Johnny

I think #39 is still available from Toyota. Just tell them you need one for a 1970 FJ40 soft top model to make it easy for them.

good call :)

i might ring them up today.

/// edit

Called the local toyota, and they say they are discontinued :(

Crap.

Call CruiserDan at American Toyota. I bought some from him over the winter.

try this # for the door weatherstripping:
68161-60020

Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
6816160020 $12.77 $0.00 $10.22

WEATHERSTRIP, DOOR

Perfecto thanks!

Dan is on vacation, but i give him another call when he gets back.

Thanks guys!

Probably going to break down the doors this weekend.
Maybe blast and primer and paint them close to the faded color and reassemble.
There is a place nearby that can powder coat them cheaply in a color and finish almost identical the faded patina.

:D
