Ordering parts from Toyota Australia?

FWIW, I ordered a bunch of hardware from Megazip. I was totally impressed. A bunch of stuff to install a fender on a
BJ74. 5 days from placing the order, shipped from Japan by Japan post, until it was in my mailbox in Ladysmith BC

I'll be using them very soon for some other stuff as soon as I get home.

Wow that is good.
My biggest issue with amayama has been the wait time. They have never let me down, it just takes weeks to recieve the parts.'
I'll definatelly be checking those 2 out before my next order goes in. Thanks for the feedback.

I asked in another thread but just found this one here as well.

My favorite mechanics is warning me from all of such pages and says i should buy only from authorized toyota dealers.

When you say that "all parts you got" were genuine.. how are you convinced that they are not simply very good copies?

I would love to believe them, i mean those prices are amazing. (And me being in Ethiopia, Dubai is the closest place anywa) But it seems too good to be true... i mean it looks as if Toyota must make a loss by letting those companies (megazip, partsouq, amayama) sell the parts.

please convince me somehow ;)... is there any 100% bulletproof way to proof a part being genuine?

Best,

Thomas

I disagree with your mechanic. There are lots of good aftermarket parts out there at a fraction of Toyotas parts. I have used them many times.

Agreed. If the aftermarket manufacturers can bring quality parts to the market in much lower volumes and for a fraction of the price, Toyota is gouging owners because they have a largely captive market.

Guaranteed Toyota is making a profit on sales to amayama, partsouq etc

Well, after a lot of search and not finding anybody being convinced of this being a big scam.... And then having these suppliers for years already without having been taken offline, it somehow must be true..

anyhow, with quite some big taxes in Ethiopia also on spareparts + transport those super-low prices anyhow don't come so much lower anmore than Toyota's own. But with the next parts which i cannot get here, i will try amayama out.

thanks

Amayama is good, you can trust them. Being closer to UAE it makes sense for you and they tend to have lower prices.
They have just recently upgraded their website to include year/manufacture diagrams so it's improved.
I use Megazip, but that was because of diagrams. FWIW, the tech assistance email is really good on Megazip

I tried MegaZip for some tough to source parts. They showed stock on parts I could not find anywhere (Glow Plug Controller). After I ordered though I got an email that 4 of the 10 parts I ordered were not available and that they were updating their site to reflect. They let me cancel my order since these parts were my main reason for ordering the list of parts. I then tried PartSouq and so far so good. They indicate everything shipped and FedEx shows it currently in Paris. Their prices were great even with shipping.

I ordered a genuine set of mirrors from Amayama and they look suspect to me no part numbers anywhere on them but in Toyota boxes. I let it ride as they look like quality item but time will tell.
The other fifteen items I have brought through Amayama have been genuine so my guess is it’s there supplier is slipping in some counterfeits.

FWIW here in Australia virtually every one uses aftermarket parts for all models (not just Toyotas). Genuine parts (especially Toyota) tend to be extremely over priced here and most dealers simply aren't interested in finding parts and prices for you. Also if there's not stock in Australia (never seems to be) Japanese manufactures have always quoted me a 6+ week wait.

Before the advent of Amayama/Megazip ect I looked overseas (eBay, 'cruiser specialists) for genuine parts. I've chased parts prices from Aussie dealers but they've always been unreasonably priced and I've never bought anything from one.

I recently bought a genuine headgasket for my 3B of Amayama for 1/3 what the local dealer quoted me, it also turned up in about 1/4 the time that it would have from the dealer.

We used to have a number of high quality aftermarket parts manufacturers (ACL, Repco ect) here in Australia so I guess the culture of using non-genuine parts grew with that.

The local distributors know which aftermarket parts are junk and which are good. A mechanic told me to always use Toyotas rear main oil seal and thermostat.

Well, I have to say I still do not feel too comfortable with them..
And I wouldn't feel comfortable neither having them in my hand. could hardly say then "that is genuine". How would i know it's not a good quality copy?

Anyhow, worked out well. at the end i found now almost all parts genuine from the Toyota Dealer.
