Hi all,

Just received my radiator from go-part.com. I ordered C1917 but received PR1917K. Few pictures attached to get some recommendations from fellow cruiser heads. Should I return it or is this what's expected? I thought C1917 was suppose to be a copper...

Thanks.

UPDATE: upon closer look, it weights ~30 lbs (out of the box) and has 3 core copper painted black. I don't think this is a counterfeit but still curious why the box says PR1917K when I ordered C1917.

Looks like what I got a few months ago. So far so good.

hmmmm.... that sucks! I specifically looked at my box part # and the wording and part numbers on the radiator and mine were right! Came in the same kind of box and looked the same, but was the real deal. And that was from gopart.com

EDIT: sorry i read real fast and didn't see your follow up post. I still say it's strange it had the different part number on the box.

Maybe they shipped you the last one that is made in japan and the real mccoy. I'm about to order this Koyo Rad but am glad the OP posted these pics, now I'm thinking twice if I get a koyo or oem.

I would not think that Go parts would be dumb enough to counterfit a radiator, sell it as a Koyo 1917c, and then send you a Koyo box with the wrong label on the outside. Futhermore, if they were going to be selling counterfit Koyo's on a regular basis, they would make every effort to skimp on the production as much as possible so that the yield of sales would account for all of the returns and claims against them. I am betting that that number on the outside is a stocking number of some kind. I am not promising that you received a genuine KOYO, but all the instances that I have read about counterfits or non copper core rads resulted in a much lighter package. Either way, I would base my decision to keep or return that radiator based on the observed quality, the fact that it has a Koyo badge on it, and not that the box has a number on the side of it that is not exactly the same as the Koyo model number. I do know that alot of Koyo's are made in Inonesia now, mine was:D

Koyos are no longer made in Japan for parts coming to the NA market (this is my understanding of the current business model).

In fact very little aftermarket OEM replacements are made in Japan...except for a lot of Aisin parts.

The only rads made in Japan coming to the NA market are the "TRads" (formerly Toyota Radiator) from what I have seen.

Even most Toyota replacements come from either Indonesia or the US, especially for the NA market production vehicles.

Thanks all for sharing your thoughts. I have sent an email to KOYO (koyorad.com) to see if they could explain the discrepancy in the part number. I will follow up if/when I get a reply from them.

So far, other than the part number, it looks legit in terms of quality and weight. While browsing koyorad.com site, I found the following which pretty much confirms to what I have received.

Koyo manufactures four different types of radiators:

1.

OE Aftermarket Plastic Tanks/Aluminum Cores (most common)
Design: Japan and China
Manufacturing: Indonesia and China

2.

OE Aftermarket All Aluminum (Toyota Sienna, Lexus RX, etc)
Design: Japan
Manufactured: Indonesia or China

3.

*** I believe this is what C1917 is and what I received looks exactly like what they show in their products page KOYORAD.COM - Products - Radiators ***

OE Aftermarket Copper / Brass (select vehicles)
Design: Japan
Manufacturing: Indonesia

4.

Racing All Aluminum Radiators (select performance vehicles)
Design: Japan and Indonesia
Manufacturing: Japan and Indonesia

So far, all checks out and I am leaning towards keeping it... I will post back if I hear anything back from KOYOrad about the part number.

...

adding a picture of a radiator... white spots on the pic are packaging materials... I didn't vacuum prior taking the picture.

*Only* reason I ordered KOYOrad was to save some $... I am usually an OEM guy but can't afford it right now... otherwise I would have already talked to Dan or Onor for a nice OEM one...

Again, I don't think that the PF1917K has anything to do with Koyo as a Compnay and is a label added by Go Parts as a stocking number, if that number was on the radiator itself then I would be more inclined to be suspicious. My pops owns a motorcycle dealership and a lot of his small parts stock are labeled at the box so that they can find things easily on the shelf. Go parts has what I can only imagine a gigantic warehouse where everything is stacked and organized so that it can be pulled and shipped. Here is an example:
P --- Part
R ---Radiator, Referance
1917 --- Model Specific
K--- Koyo

This could all be how Go Parts who is in no way affiliated with Koyo, other than a distributor, labels, organizes, and retrieves parts by thousands of manufacturers.

What does it really matter what the part number is, if the part you ordered is the part you received?

I can't really tell from the pictures, but is this the plastic tank version that everyone 'likes' ?

You may well be right on that because I can't really find anything that's suspicious with the radiator. Far as I am concerned, this radiator C1917/PR1917K is going to be placed to my baby ('97) this weekend.

I just spent more than 3 grand putting my engine where it needs to be and that same radiator is cooling it. I did my research, looked at the oem's that are coming out lately and decided that the Koyo was a sound investment at a price I could live with. Hope I'm right.

I recently put the aluminium/plastic version Koyo in mine. Sitting side by side with the original radiator, they look exactly the same. If they didn't come out of the same mold, it was a very good copy of the mold!:hillbilly: I took the side brackets off to foam the gaps and ended up using the original sides, fit perfectly on the new radiator. IMHO, install it and drive.

Taking this man's advice on cooling your Landcruiser is the way to go. :D

I just picked up a KOYO C1917 this morning from 1-800 Radiators warehouse here in San Diego and it does say C1917 but also has their part # 1917KO on it.

Yours looks exactly the same and I am sure this is just Go-Parts inventory stocking number.
