To-mAe-toe, To-mah-toe

I have both. 87 FJ60 and a 1990 FJ62. Once you get sick of the never ending starting battles with the 60, you will kiss your 62 each time that you just turn the key and it simply starts.

No probs with my 60, same thing every morning.

Key in ignition
two pumps on the pedal
Pull out choke
Turn key

Starts first shot every time.

With some of the electrical & computer glitches we are currently going through with both of our Volvos....I really appreciate the lack of electrics in my 60.

No starting problems with my 87 FJ 60, half choke and a couple pumps of fuel and she lights on first crank. It took a valve adjustment, manifold gasket, vacum lines, new egr valve and modulator to make this possible. I live in Southern California so a cold morning for me is 50 degrees maybe things would be different. When I first got my 60 the carb fan was disconnected and consequently I had a hot starting problem, I think the fuel evaporates or percolates out of the float bowel or maybe a vapor lock who knows, but I hooked my carb fan back up and problem completely went away. Felt like a victory !! Maybe it's just me but when I brought my track completely back to the way the factory built it and hooked all the smog stuff back up and adjusted the valves and chased all of the vacume leaks down went through the carb and tuned it up it just runs like a watch. SOmebody on this board said these trucks are just a crew cab tractor and thats absolutely spot on, drive em like that and I think they will outlast the fuel we pour through em. Just my opinion.

My 60 starts easily as well. A couple of pumps, a bit of choke in cold weather, and it's ready for action.

If I drive it on a daily basis, mine will start immediately. I have pretty much done all that you have with no joy. I have accepted the fact that, like an old panhead, she is what she is and set in her ways.

62 has stronger frames and carriers...big plus

How are their (62) frames stronger? that's a new one to me...
