I agree that a unifying and calming voice is what we need right now.

Your posts came across to me, and it seems others shared this view, as defensive of the rioters today. I appreciate now that wasn't your intent, but it sure came across that way at first. I'm glad that wasn't your intent!

Edited for brevity.

It still seems that you are dismissing the responsibility of those who...

I'm not really following you here. You'd need to give me some specific references. In my mind, which doesn't always translate perfectly in written word, I'm not assigning blame nor dismissing the actions of anyone. At most, highlighting a potentially missed opportunity. I'm considering the current state of the environment and suggesting a course of action given the available resources and time to achieve the best possible outcome. The fact that we are at this point puts the responsibility piece into the "given" column in my mind. My comments were based on being a reaction to counter that.

Separately though, I do generally find the majority of the media, no matter what slant they have, disgusting in this day and age. It is overwhelmingly frustrating for me to see them apply the concepts and techniques of psychological warfare nearly verbatim from the book. That's not news anymore.

I edited that part of my post out afterwards because I didn't think it was a fully fleshed out thought worthy of further discussion.

The tactics you're eluding to are what I was referring to in my pre-edited post. The responsibility for the insurrection today falls on those who have been cultivating distrust in our media and elections for the past few years. It's their fault entirely, not some natural or remotely reasonably justified reaction because "their guy" lost.

Yeah, that's the longhand version of what I meant when I attributed where today's rioters got the confidence to take their actions this far.

*edited because MUD's internal predictive type turns my sentences into garble :bang:

One of the more notable rioters, what more needs to be said. When all rational, reasonable avenues like our courts are exhausted this is what we get. This should surprise nobody at all, it has been pushed and encouraged by their leader since he realized he lost. We put a reality "star" in charge and now this is our new reality.

The thing that needs to happen after today is that people need to realize there arent just two colored lenses. All of those who "work" in both sides of that building have done very little in meaningful help to the citizens of our country. They are not opponents, they are partners, playing their games to enrich themselves. Their opponents are the very people they supposedly represent, who for some strange reason, keep repeating the cycle of putting them back in office.

Well, until we vote the mouth breathers out that have more sense to not compare yesterday to Pearl Harbor, don't end a prayer with 'amen' and 'awoman', don't support BLM and defund the police movement (while at the same time crying out for MORE police yesterday), make everything about race, understand that an island won't tip over with extra troops, quit funneling billions to the middle east and Africa while at the same time shutting American small biz down, continuing to pay gov't employees when they are sitting at home, quit encouraging illegal immigration with gov't handouts and the promise of 'free' healthcare if you can get a toe across the border, and encourage self reliance and responsibility, nothing will change.

Does this '95 80 series look familiar to anyone in the Raleigh area? It's listed for sale and I'm considering going to take a look at it unless somebody knows a reason not to.

For anyone interested in an opportunity to learn something productive.....

@GLTHFJ60 I feel like you could start combining disciplines and get a whole brand thing going on!

On a side note. How do you know the CHH (Chris Hiortdahl)

@FJ Noob NM, I didn't realize that was a live link and just showing me who from my friends list was interested. I thought it was a screen shot from your account. Doh!!!

Why do you think the police would have opened fire on a BLM protest in the capitol building? Would they have been armed with guns? Would they have lit fires? What would they have done to escalate it to a shootout? You do realize BLM protests are made up of people of all color? So why would it be a bloodbath? You realize BLM is more divisive than Trump could ever dream of don't you?

Did you read my post? Guess not again I have been to BLM protests, I went to the CHAZ and I went to Trump Rallies. No where did I say that there would be more bodies due to them being black. A large part of BLM protests are attended by Hispanics and whites along with blacks.

The reason I said that is you just have to pay attention. BLM protests that turn into riots like yesterday's "rally" did turn up a lot more force than was shown yesterday. I've been there first hand and got out before the s*** hit the fan.
If a BLM, or Antifa rally got that out of hand at the country's capital and penetrated the inner sactumn of American democracy, much less the speakers office there would be dead protesters.

You complain you don't trust the government, most of us don't, but yet your complaints are only about democrats in your post so I guess we see which side you dont trust.

Public land and buildings may belong to us but that doesn't mean people can do whatever they want on/in them

Peace. I dont want this to turn into a FB debate so I've said my peace on the subject. Everyone stay safe out there.

Ben, I guess the only OPINIONS that matter are the ones that agree with yours. Well I am entitled to my OPINION as well. The easiest thing to do is just put me on block.

This is what both parties want. they want people who have shared a common social interest, brought together from a myriad of backgrounds, to totally destroy their social circles.

I do not trust any of them in Washington, regardless of party. Those who have been there a majority of their lives have reaped the benefits of a life in power.

Hopefully the citizens of our nation can finally realize that WE have the choice to not be stuck deciding between the turdbuger and the sh1tsamm1ch. We keep throwing the same people to Washington, and most newbs get suckered into party line compliance pretty quickly.

We need term limits. we need hard rules on investing, trusts, and accounting scrutiny.

we need single Item legislation. no 4000 page Bills that get passed without knowing what's in it. Make the congress people earn their money and discuss every bill on the floor, on record, with disclosing any lobbyist, corporate, or personal "influence".

in times like covid, congress should not get paid. they are public servants who spent millions, if not billions to get in those chairs. dammit, they need to stay in them until crap gets done.

we need voter ID. we must provide ID for everything else, and your vote should be the most valuable thing in the world.

I could go on, but none of the stuff above will happen. the machine is too well oiled up there.
