power steering on my 60 has had a slow leak that seems to be getting worse. How hard is the rebuild? Is it worth saving the $ to rebuild or is the time investment not worth the savings?

What component is leaking, pump or box?

I rebuilt the pump on ours a couple of years ago no leaks after the rebuild.

If you have the tools it's easy to reseal/rebuild. The seal kit is around $50 IIRC and west texas offroad used to charge around $150, plus shipping there and back. If you have the tools (you do, not that much to it) then yeah, do it yourself.

cool. Yeah I have a decent selection of tools. Rebuild kit ordered. Thanks.

guessing its the GM Saginaw???

its not terrible to do if you have the right tools, new ones aren't really that expensive either.

Saw it on the road a couple times. Thought exactly the same thing. It's nice looking in person though for sure.

It is a mazda underneath. Thank goodness. ;<)

Box truck has a 4BT in it, compound turbos, pushing 80psi of boost. 15:76 @ 86mph. Hilarious to watch it go down the track next to an integra, lol.

Does anybody here have a gx470? We are looking to expand our choices for looking for a family suv. Have a 3rd gen 4runner now and would like to stay under $15k . Yes i know 100 series are the best but don't really want anything over 150k miles. And from reading it seems like they are built better than the sequoias. Besides the timing belt , is there anything else i should look at or be concerned about? I found a 2009 with 125k for around $15 and trying to see if that sounds about right. Thanks

The GX is the same as the 4th gen 4runner so if you are looking for something bigger than that for a family SUV and a toyota your two choices are a 100 or a sequoia. which would be easy to find for under 150k and less than 15 large. Mine had 180k and I got for 5k.

That said @little_joe and @mtweller both have GX's.

Stevezero too

Imo id pick a gx over 4runner
And it'll ride better than a Sequoia built on a truck ladder chassis. So guess comes down to how much size you need

2uz needs timing belt and water pump every 90-120

Gx issues i know of are dash crack recall that just ended so try and find one with a replcement dash already, or one in line for the service.

might be kinda new to find sub 15k

Don't get me wrong, we love the 4runners but they too are starting to hold there value. If we went 4runner I'd get a v6 but figured I've seen plenty of cruisers with 3-400k+ with the same motor as the gx. Also curious, are the runner, gx, and cruiser all built in Japan? We don't really need the size, we just want a nicer( little roomier than the 3rd gen) that my wife is goin to drive daily with our 2 boys. And something that is goin to last that I don't mind putting money into a suspension upgrade instead of fixing major stuff.

I've come to realize we are for sure sticking with Toyota. My wife has only had them. But I have had jeep, f150, tacoma, and now a 2014 GMC Sierra. My truck with less than 50k had the AC condenser go out and multiple other problems. But it's a company truck so I'm gonna try to convince to switch to a tundra next go round. All had problems except the 2010 Tacoma.

Wish I'd known about that a few months ago :bang::bang::bang:

As mentioned, the dash recall just ended, but a dealer/Lexus may extend goodwill. Not every GX was affected anyway - my dash is perfect, except for the small spot I f'ed up on my own.

The only other concern on the GX is the air suspension. If and when it goes, though, coils are an easy/cheap swap.

That year/mileage/price seems ok. It's a rock solid platform, a super ride. If you have specific questions, fire away...

We had a 2003 GX470 and it was one of the nicest cars we ever owned. We should have never sold it. The GX is actually quick and fun to drive. The interior materials and fit and finish are top notch. '04 had the reverse camera. You can find them without NAV. The leg room in the first and second row are great. The truck is more narrow.

We got 14 mpg around town and up to 21 on the highway.

The back barn door is really my only complaint. I would like to design a clam shell tailgate like the 100 series. I am sure there is someone that could figure that out. Just watch the side slope parking as the door will knock you and your kids over if it moving quickly.

The barn door is nice for mounting a camping table.

15k should be easy. I would look for '06 or '07.

Miles are not an issue as it is the same drive train as the 100 and weights around 800 lbs less (less strain on tranny and engine).
