It's the little easy victories that keep me on board these last two weeks.

So - anyone up for a challenge?

What is the shift knob thread size on a Ranger Torque Splitter?

So to help, if you decide to try and answer the question:

NO, they don't list it on the Ranger site
NO, Google won't help
NO, I don't have a large box of nuts with labels on them so I can try and figure it out through trial and error
NO, Home Depot won't let me park in the hardware section do it there.
NO, I don't have an original shift knob to measure (PO used a universal one)
NO, the folks at American Shifter don't know either

It's smaller than 16m x 1.50 and larger than the Toyota Stock Transfer case and Transmission threads.

A thread gauge found in a tap and die set and a caliper will get you there

Good call - can't find my caliper for some reason. The wife used it last... Typical...
No tap and die set in my house unfortunately.

Try a local auto store, many of them have a thread size checker, bunch of different sized all on a little cable. Can you take the shifter to them?

I'll probably go raid the ace hardware bin - there's really only 16 or so possibilities... :)

Don't really want to remove the shifter..

Well, let's see, slightly smaller than 16 mm would be 15 mm. :flipoff2:

I'm going to guess the threads on a ranger are SAE and not metric. If by smaller you mean incredibly close to the right size it is likely 5/8 inch. For the record the threads on my nv4500 shifter are 5/8 fine thread (18 threads per inch). If it is smaller by some significant amount the next size down is 9/16 which come in course thread (12 /inch) and fine thread (18 /inch). I think I'm around this weekend if you want to confirm.

then there is this guy

Perfect - thanks for that. Narrowed it down substantially.

You're not going to figure out the thread size without taking the knob off. Just take it off!

I have it off - but it's a universal knob. IE: not the stock size, you just sinch it down with hex nuts.
