I don’t tow anything but I would dearly love to transport my bikes with my 2003 LX. I have the a One Up rack and my hitch receiver is integrated into the rear bumper. I bought the adapter thing that bolts into the actual hitch behind the cover to no avail. What am I missing? Anyone dealt with this?

Are you saying the rack tube won't slide into the bumper receiver or you can't get the cross pin in?
I am using a One Up rack on my 2004 with the integrated hitch receiver. I have a "base" model One Up with a 1.25" receiver and a 2" adapter. It works with the integrated hitch with no modifications. Mine has no pin, it's held in place exclusively with the expanding ball. As an aside, I do not recommend this setup because it works itself loose on washboard pretty quickly.
I have read that the shape of the integrated receiver necessitates light grinding for some adapters/racks to fit; I think I've read that 2" One Up racks need a little trimming in order to slide easily into the hitch.
Edit - I'll also note the tailgate hits the rack so you can't put any weight on the tailgate with the rack installed. A swing-out rack adapter would remedy that problem.

Thanks this is helpful. I have the 2” post from One Up and it won’t slide into the Toyota receiver adapter. Seems close but slightly too small. Had not thought about the tailgate yet but makes sense it would be be useable as the hitch receiver is so high on the car. I will go after the adapter with a grinder.
Yes to the first question, rack tube slightly too large it seems. Or rather receiver too small as rack fits on every other car I have tried.
It’s an older One Up rack. I don’t think it’s on the website any longer. It is the 2” square post model with the anti rattle ball.

So I went through the same investigation. I also have an older 1Up and wanted to use a bumper-mounted receiver so that I could eliminate my under-bumper aftermarket hitch receiver.
Feedback here and in other sources suggested that the frame crossmember for the bumper-mounter receiver is not as stiff as an under-bumper receiver. Our racks extend a couple feet back from the hitch, so that’s a much longer moment arm than a ball hitch. I was told to expect a lot of bounce from the rack due to crossmember flex.
Then there is the tailgate interference. With the under-bumper receiver, I can fully drop the tailgate when I notch the 1Up down 45°. I don’t think this will be possible with the bumper mounted hitch.
And finally, the 1Up uses a very square extruded aluminum 2” hitch, but many of the bumper mounted receivers I’ve seen (including the Toyota ones) have more of a “squircle” shaped hole that won’t accept a pure square. I think that’s the issue you’re having?

Squircle indeed. Your solution was new under bumper receiver? Curt or the like?
Yeah I have a curt class III/IV under the bumper. It’s super stout, I just don’t tow and it reduces my departure angle a little. But I can load the 1Up with 100 pounds of bikes and no flex.
