Well,
My personal opinion is that every single 80 series landcruiser is plagued with problems......
They handle like crap, eat brake pads, blow gaskets, break birfs, have driveline clunks, drink gas and are generally the worst vehicle put out by a major automobile manufacturer since the ford pinto.
Just so that if anyone looks to this thread for fixes for this stuff by searching there are solutions to fix just about every bitch and moan out there...
Handling = OME suspension upgrade or better
brake pad wear = new rotors & 100 series pads
head gasket = updated OEM gasket from Dan & time & beer
broken birfs = Longfields replacements
driveline clunks = New U joints (most of the time)
drinks gas = 5,000 lb rolling brick sucks gas - live with it.
low power = TRD supercharger or Slee or MAF turbo
wimpy front bumper = Slee, ARB, etc... replacement
wimpy rear bumperettes = Slee, Hanna, etc... replacement
wimpy steps on sides = sliders
CEL coming on repeatedly = EGR valve & O2 sensors (90%)
dummy temperature reading = Raventai mod
wimpy headlights = Slee harness & JD bulbs
cargo flying about = drawers & Milford
seats don't go back far enough = seat mod
overheating = new radiator &/or new waterpump &/or flush & fill
birfield clicking = repack and side swap
parking brake not working = dissasemble, de-rust, replace broken bits
towing big loads = Kaymar or DrawTite w/ load distribution hitch
tires = tire faq
locking center diff in high = CDL switch
unlocking center diff in low = Pin 7 mod & CDL switch
rusty POS roofrack = remove it and bodyshop or LineX (or similar)
leaking coolant under the driver's foot = PHH
leaking coolant under the passenger's seat = rear heater lines
need more juice = dual battery install
wet floor smells like dog in front = clogged sunroof drain line
wet floor smells like dog in front II = windshield seal
wet floor smells like dog in front III = clogged AC drain line
wet floor smells like dog in 3rd row = clogged sliding rear window drain line
mushy brakes = bleed the brakes better
more like Pinto = aux fuel tank where spare used to sit
Did I miss anything? I've only dealt with about 1/2 of the above so far... These trucks are just big tinker toys. Time and money can cure a lot of the 'issues'.
