If you can’t fit your snap ring (90520-31007) in the groove by the axle flange (43421-60060), the following one-man method worked for me.
  • scrap piece of angle iron
  • two 14mm sockets
  • M8-1.25x65mm bolt (Home Depot)
  • spacers, as needed
Drill a hole in the center of the angle iron to fit the bolt through, assemble as shown, and tighten. I threaded the bolt 3 turns (7.25 turns is bottom) and used spacers to fill up the extra space between the bolt head and angle iron. It didn’t need much tightening at all to pull the axle out enough to put the snap ring on.

This also works if you have a cheap socket. You cannot properly check the snap ring clearance with a feeler gauge doing this, but in my experience the axle does not slide back in once it has been pulled out.

i plan a bearing repack end of year...hope fully i will remember this.... ;)

The snap rings are also available in a variety of thicknesses. When you install, the thickness should be measured and a new, appropriately sized ring should be used.
