I'm looking at the MT64 suspension. I can't find it listed for the GX, but can for the 4runner.

If I proceed with the MT64, should I go with standard load for the rear and 225-400 for the front? I'm not sure how much heavier the front is on the GX vs a 4R. Do I even need to compensate?

I guess this would relate to all the 4runner suspension to the GX.

Also, I have not drive for one mfg or the other. I've just used OME on other stuff. Was also looking at the Bilstein kits. I just want something I can adjust the front height on to dial it in.

I have zero build out and don't plan to for a while. A really long while. At that time I can change our springs if needed to add a winch, rails, tent, long ranger tank....etc.

For reference, it current has the Toytec lift and the front coilover broke in half just driving down the street. I only have 53k miles on that suspension.

Is there a reason you're hooked on the OME MT64 suspension? There are so many other options.

As I suggest to everyone who asks, " What suspension should I get?", decide upon what your end game is.
As you mentioned, it sounds like you will, some day, build out your rig to some extent. If so, get your suspension to fit your final load out.
And also referring to your comment of building out "...some day." I'd suggest getting the spring rate that hold up to your final build and if you don't plan on building your shocks and replacing them, go with a smoother ride in the mean time until, again, you get a chance to build your rig, then put on the better shocks.

Definitely not sold on the OME MT46. I have run the OME basic shocks on my LJ for 150k miles. They have held up fine, but a very very different vehicle and supsension system.

Honestly, I'd do the Bilstein 6XXX series kits. I just want adjustable front height and stock ride. I'd rather have comfort now and send some extra money when I kit out to dial it in perfectly when I'm fully kitted.

I only do lite duty trail rides. Worst trail is onion creek near moab, or switzerlan trail (basically a dirt road) near Boulder. I have dedicated trail and overland rigs on Wrangler platforms. The GX is my daily driver that I like to find remote family picnic spots in. I was originally going to full kit out the GX as the family overlander, but will likely buy a Grenadier for that....or may a Gladiator with an AluCab Canopy Camper.

The only suspension I won't do is the Toytec as is broke at 53k miles. Not wore out, but fully broke, and it seems to be happening to others. Here is a thread of the issue another user posted up.

Not my thread or pic, but similar failure:

Call Slee Offroad.
Good call! If one is going to Boulder for trails, Slee is not too far from there.
Great products, and they know Toyota/Lexus vehicles.

Plenty of reasons to choose the MT64 - of the mid-grade options it mostly competes against the Bilstein 6xxx and Dobinsons IMS. It has the largest bore of the three, so greater non-reservoir oil volume, and is fully rubber bushed as it's not a "race" shock. Should experience similar time between maintenance intervals. It's OME so it comes from a reputable brand.

Stock weight springs are in the ~700lb/in for the front and ~230lb/in for the rear. Looks like the 4Runners run in the 600lb/in range? OME isn't great about listing their spring rates so maybe you'll have to reach out to them. Rear springs are easy enough to change as you need, and most dampers have enough valving range to handle the slight differences unless you're going super heavy.

I personally went with Dobinsons IMS. They have a pretty large selection of spring rates to choose from so you can actually choose what you want to do if you have a preference. It was that or the MT64 when I was shopping but I didn't want to be a guinea pig and play around with rates on a new system.

For what it's worth, I have Dobinsons "comfort" springs up front on my 460, and it's lighter rate/softer than stock. I like how it rides, if a bit wallowy. You can likely choose the 4Runner kit, and replace the rear springs with something softer/shorter to match up front, or get the medium kit and go back to stock rate on the back. the GXs mostly carry their extra weight up front. I have medium rears with nothing in the back right now and it's a bit stiff until I add stuff. The spring rate frequencies are a bit off front/rear.

These guys have helped me build or sort out 4 vehicle suspensions, highly recommended!
