You'd think they'd have mentioned dropping that feature.

Weird...

I just got a set for the 40 from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters and they look just as one would expect.. really excited about them actually.

where did you get yours?

I got a good deal on a set a few years back - no wrap. I doubt they ever came wrapped. I actually passed them on to someone for a restoration. I won't wheel without a wrapped spring.

Someone removed the wrap-leaf then and sold them to you...

All of the OME/DAKAR springs for the 40/60 series that I have ever installed/received directly from ARBUSA have had the military-wrap.

Hi All:

I believe that the OME leaf springs are now made in Malaysia.

Regards,

Alan

I know that ARB have out sourced where the leaf springs get made, I believe South Africa. cheaper to make more profit margin for ARB.

So demanding!! :D

I ordered these from TPI, who drop-shipped directly from ARB as they were out of stock and ARB had a container landing this month.

I don't think a leaf has been removed - the leaf below the main one does have a little tab, like a military-wrap-wannabe.

ARB was very nice, but basically told me (and Poser) that we're full of s***. :D I suppose that settles it. MAF's photos show wraps of the 60-series CS004 springs, but not on the 40-series CS001 springs.

EDIT: Whoops, just noticed ARB's very nasty disclaimer about pasting their emails. The gist is, they told me to look at MAF's site:
MAF OME Dakkar Leaf Springs
Old Man Emu Suspension Kits 40 Series
And that they haven't dropped any features from the 40-series springs - they never had a military wrap.

Never had a military wrap on the 40 series spring ??

How does this square w/what Poser (who usually is very accurate) says in post 9 ?

The reason I ask is that someday I plan to upgrade my 40. One of the advantages I'm looking for is the military wrap.

I put OME's on my FJ40 a couple of years ago, no wrap on them. I've been scratching my head over it since I installed them, but they perform just fine, and that's they way they came new from MAF. Both ends exactly the same.

Since I started dealing with OME springs heavily in ~00', they have not had a military wrap on the OME13/131 or OME14/141 springs, which later became the CS001/2F and CS001/2R springs. Almost all other version OME springs I can think of do in fact have the military wrap.

:D

The reason 40 springs don't have the mil wrap is because ARB and most others incorporated the larger diameter bushing, that came in the FJ60 and 1980 and later 40, into their springs. When they did this the eylet diameter grew and consequently no longer fit in the early FJ40 spring hanger with the extra wrap of steel. If you compare the spring hanger on a pre 80 FJ40 to a later one you'll see that the later ones have the clearance for the larger bushing plus a full mil wrap. If you look around, the only 40 springs that still have a mil wrap are using the old style tiny bushing..
Personally I'd have the larger bushing over the mil wrap, however in the 60 series the only reason to omit it is cost

Q: What is a military wrap?

A: In a leaf spring pack, one leaf is looped at the ends to allow you to anchor it to the frame of the truck. A military wrap is a second loop (in the adjacent leaf) that wraps around the first loop. It adds strength and redundancy.

I'll see if I can get a picture to post.

Snitched this off the internet. Hope it doesn't violate any copyright laws.

See the second wrap?
