Well hey hi! Long time listener first time caller for a build thread!
I’m just over a year of ownership I’ve posted here a bit mostly been scowering through threads trying to absorb it all and finding solutions and answers to my problems and questions. And with all the great mud folks and love for these rigs I haven’t come across anything that hasn’t already been handled by several before me. Huge thanks ! Quite the rabbit holes to fall down as well.
First build here and making mistakes for sure. Some struggles with being clear on what I really want and how to get there. Enjoying it as I go through iterations vs being years apart in the garage is part of the plan for sure but as planning goes I see it costing more and doing and redoing upgrading things with not much that can be done to avoid some of it. With that the build will be super slow go as well. Can’t just snap my figures and it all be done to the spec in my head though as nice as that would be! But not nearly as fun!
So for a bit I’ll be working backwards on what I’ve already been through with some story times, to arrive at the good time I’m currently in!
Looking forward to chatting with ya, sharing my rusty junk and learning cool cruiser stuff!!

Pics from the sale ad!

Seen it is it familiar at all?
Thought the po was on here. Not sure who he got it from, he’s a salesman here seems to flip quite a few cruisers. It would be kinda cool if it was from a member be able to get more history of it.

‘96 or ‘95?

Is the interior oak or grey?

Miles/any realrust or did it live a easy life?

— Looks super decent in the pics, congrats!

96, makeup on a pig for sure. I’ll be cutting rust out and learning to weld on this deal. Interior is oak. Made it just over 240k. It’s been a bit of a rough go for it.

Was it from the salt belt? I hope the rust was disclosed by the seller at least.

Have any pics of the undercarriage?

I could see in the quarters and a bit of the rocker had repair wasn’t sure how bad. Purchased to be wheeled hard so it doesn’t have to be perfect was the mind set. No disclosers. I’ll need some floor pan parts too found the worst of it when I took the stock rear bumper side pieces off. I’ll post some pics up of for sure. Sorting through some and I’ll have to take some more of it all. Especially when I pull the carpet out.

Saw some brake fluid leakin and a bottle of fluid laying next to the shifter, which had been leaking too it ate up the power and 2nd buttons pretty good. Brakes sucked, no surprise there. Starting tearing into it to see where the leak was and fix it. Wasn’t expecting to find this kind of carnage! It didn’t really make much noise at this point the piston was pushed out and loss of pressure it wasn’t being a brake pad anymore! It was kinda just riding along and you get rattle sometimes a small clunk. Drive home wasn’t far about 15 miles. Goodtimes! These rigs will just keep on going. Crazy! Not a good sign of things. Proper krustyness. 🤮

been there, fixed that.
Dad brought home a Scout II for a "woods" truck in the early '80s. Had the same brakes. LOL

Drove it around a lil bit and to work a few times after the brakes and the to do list had exploded at this point. Did a few maintenance & shake down things here before a trail run. One the most used tools in a can for this deal for sure!

My maiden trail day with my @Salty Cookie fam! Didn’t take near enough pictures not even one poser either wth. Fanfreakintastic day! Found a cool lil spot exploring and some 80 love!
Feels like forever ago and I haven’t been out enough or gotten enough done. Slacking!
I noticed the battery cables were a bit krusty, some cheap replacement joints poorly installed and didn’t really tighten down. That with the lack of a hold down she had a jiggle the terminals start feature a couple times on this journey! Lol Goodtimes.

Rig had a slight knock from the get. Couldn’t diagnose it. She’s over 200 anyway so a refresh was in the plans. I picked a motor and trans up from a mudder with the plan to build while I was running this one. Currently that didn’t work out so well. More on that later

Bought a bigger stand, starting fitting and figuring out some exhaust.

Market place deal I didn’t need but the price was right!
Bit of drag the center’s didn’t fit but I’m happy with them. 35’s! I wanted a 17” for better rubber selection but it was down the list a ways.

After the third row, spare tire carrier, rear bumper and trailer hitch came off the stink bug was in full effect.
Did a little flex test to see how bad the rubbing is going to be. Normal driving only rubs going up a curb turned to the left a little bit.

Was stuck on the rear tire here couldn’t go up any further. Clearance and more lift will come. For now I dropped the bumps.
Loving the wheels!
Blue rings are growing on me.

Details on those headers ? ?

Those are pacemakers. They’re from Australia.
I went with the inside the frame option like the 105 was and run no cats. No pipe to smash on the rocks and no worries for cats in the way or have to do some cage for umm with the sliders.
I installed them to have the rest of the exhaust done and was going to have them coated as I thought the blue would burn off. Surprisingly it’s held up great so far. It does however come right off with brake clean. Lol I hit them on a spot when I was cleaning something. It’s only been 5,000 miles or so I’d guess but I didn’t expect the primaries to have paint left on them from just the drive home from the exhaust shop.

Nice. I wasn’t aware of that option. I like it. Right with you on the 105 series inside the frame exhaust routing business too. It just makes sense. I had to modify a set of ARH headers but got it done the way I wanted to.

What did ya do for exhaust studs? I had three pull threads taking the manifolds off. I had already bought a kit so I just used three from that. Luckily there was some thread left for it to work.
Hoping I don’t have this issue on the other head I’m going to do the rebuild on. I like the shorter stud but I’m a bit scared. Lol Not a big fan of the fun of thread repair.
Smh I just thought about the 6 or something bolts that broke last week while I’ve been taken the front end stuff off.

Arh’s are nice that was the route I was going to go if these didn’t work out.
