Got parking bake! What a concept. Got each caliper in and used new 3/4” spacers to replace the raggedy ones that it had, Then routed the cables, got both sides to a termination block all from the standard Wildwood kit. Had enough leftover cable and shield to go from dual block to single cable to the floor lever. Once everything worked a few times mechanically, swapped the caliper hoses to the new ones, gravity bled with open drain and all the air came out. Went for test drive about 5 miles, supermarket to use parking brake, and all seems well.

Very cool. Parking brakes are the best. ;<)

Bushings…front bushings needed to go, so got 2 dozen from Cruiser Outfitters. First one took me 3 hours, trying to figure out how to align that rear single one wasn’t easy until I unbolted the front again used a Jack to manipulate it. Second one took me 45 mins.
The rears are rubber and don’t look bad, but looks like to do those I will need to do more wrenching to get things loose. Maybe tomorrow…

Latest updgrades….jeep and bronco bolt on strap handles, both fit fine so testing which one is better for me. May keep both, for about $14 a pair, not bad old man climb help.

New old stock wiper assembly from Cityracer, replaced the wobbly worn out original.

And hopefully the last piece for the power steering, got an 80 return tube to replace the kinked original. The tube is a little shorter than the 60 one, but otherwise fits.

Oil pan gasket, finally have time to get to that and the leaks, and boy was it bad on the rear! I don’t think you are supposed to use grout for the gasket, right? It was har and crumbly. Scrape all the layers of silicone and thoroughly cleaned it, degreased, and primed. I have blue and black spray paint….so decision time before reassembly tomorrow. Still need to clean the block surface too.

Always black. Until I paint mine blue, then always blue. Go black @izzyandsue

2nd on black

I did go with black, had more black paint left over than blue So that worked. After a few driving cycles, no leaks, actually looks too clean and it’s scaring me. Left the clutch cover primer grey, after a few coats, so I can see any leaks back there easier.

Time for brake booster replacement, that old one looked pretty worn and the brake pedal was pretty hard. New dual diaphragm in from CityRacer and pedal is nice and responsive. May take some time to get retrained on not having to brake hard with both feet!

Should have done the master cylinder at the same time…that’s a job for next time I get garage therapy time with my emotional support vehicle.

Well, new master cylinder is in, gotta to love Cruiser Outfitters, ordered Friday, showed up Monday. Ran out to grocery store and felt power was low, but it wasn’t power, it was brakes on without brake pedal pushed. Yes it smelled like it. Got that fixed to drive home and replaced the master.
Bench bleeding kit was well worth the $9.99, got that sorted. Old master cylinder plunger was coming off, that baby was sick.

using some electrowizardry, found out this rando pull switch was used to power the old useless dome light. So got me a modernistic dome light that covered the hole, and boom there it is

also a new Toyoter choke cable so I don’t need to use the spring clamp to hold the cable in place. Looking very 20th century!
