I have inherited a FJ55 from my old climbing partner here in Yosemite. As I plan and work to return it to the road, I began to wonder just how long this land cruiser has been on the roads of California. The California title I received with the pile of parts that will someday be returned to functionality says this is a 1967 Toyota with a serial number FJ5510819, first registered in October 1967. Anybody in Mud land have a 55 cruiser with a lower number?

Wow, Oct of 67, I had no idea.

Thanks J Mack I had not seen that. Sounds like a number of early 55's went to OZ. I still wonder what the oldest 55 in the US is.

Going to be some questions coming. Is it a US 55 or has it been imported at some point. Does the title match the frame and data plate?

The title, frame and tag all match. I am the fourth or fifth owner, with the cruiser having been here in the Yosemite area since the early 1990's. The story told by my old climbing partner was that the truck was purchased in an LA dealership new in 1967. Did dealerships in 1967 bring new 1968 models to the show room floor as early as October? It looks like an early 68 with the horizontal mounted fender lights, the lower front grill lights, three speed on the column, early steering wheel pad, and wing window front doors.

Pretty common back then for dealers to take deliver of new models in the fall of the previous year. Used to be a huge deal around here every September/October with new models covered up on the showroom floors until "unveiling" on the magic day.
