thanks for the replies.

I honestly dont see any impact to efficiency and i alternate just out of mild cold start paranoia. The weather here is a bit schizophrenic, we had no fall at all and this winter is warm even for Texas standards even though that’s probably not a local phenomenon at this point. A couple of freezes so far but nothing like last year.

I do every 5k usually since its mostly seeing city milage. I may do filter every 10k unless thats a bad idea?

I'm currently a fanboi of Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy. Easy to find and relatively cheap at Walmart.

Maintains the protective 0W viscosity cold start protection. Enhances the high temperature viscosity rating. With all the requisite certs that @gaijin points out.

I originally swapped to this for hot summer towing where temps get into 115F, towing more than GCWR into the Sierras and Rockies, on 35s. The engines been nothing but rock solid, with stable temps, even slogging at 4-5k RPM for 30 minutes at a time. As I'm asking for a lot, figured it would be safe protection to go up in viscosity. Being deep into the throttle for extended periods can really elevate temps and compromise HTHS viscosity, and figured this was good insurance. Yes, it'll be a slight hit to economy (relative to 0W-20) , but less so than 5W-30 as the low temp viscosity rating is better there. Hence the Advanced Fuel Economy branding of this 0W-30 (relative to 5W-30).

I use to swap back to 0W-20 in winter. But being that 0W-30 still maintains good cold viscosity, and with trips in California sometimes seeing a broad mix of temps despite season. Figured at higher mileage now with clearances a bit looser than new.

0W-30 is my current brew of choice.

Is it true that different viscosity is spec’d for the 5.7 in other markets? I’m in Florida and cold starts aren’t an issue. Local dealer does oil changes 0w20 synthetic, I have assumed Toyota oil but never checked, for @$40…loss leader to get repair business on Camry’s and Corolla’s I assume. At that price I change every 5K with my free tire rotations.

I know I’m over thinking it but wondering if 5W30 would be better in the Florida heat. I’m at 57k on a 2016 LC.

Yes.
