oil shows on one side of the dipstick

It is a US spec '93 FZJ80, I am the 3rd owner, I bought it like that. Because of the yellow handle, I thought it came like that from the factory too. I guess we will see if anybody else around the world has this kind of stick.

medtro's is the same as mine. It is harder than you might think to see fresh synthetic on that crosshatch.

Same here

the cable type is the same as mine. A '93, with yellow handle. I haven't had the problem of oil only on one side. I usually check oil before I go anywhere, but the check doesn't seem to make it any easier to see.

Sure looks that way...I wonder what Dan charges for this cable type dipstick?

Better yet wonder why they changed it to the sheetmetal type.....probably cost I would guess.

I have the round one too, mine is a 94. My brother has a 94 and his is the flat one, go figure? Getting a good oil reading is a pain with the synthetic.

Hey Doug, since you have both could you check something for me/us? Are they the same length and more importantly if you put the 93 "stick" in the 97 does it give the same reading. Wonder fi the cable lays differently in the curves of the tube.

Any preference? Something tells me I might have grass is greener thing going here.

Next question will be did Toyota put this one in the really cheap or really expensive stack, seams the only 2 ways they come.

Keep in mind that we're talking about three different transmissions here - over the run of 80s from 91-97 - so you would expect the sticks to be different.

91-92 - A440F
93-94 - A442F
95-97 - A343F

... tho that doesn't explain the two different sticks in the 94. Hmmm...
