Oil Pump Going Bad?

If the sensor is not bad why sopend the money on one? Change the oil and see what5 happens, if no change then replace the sensor.
But if his oil pressure comes up, the gauge can still fluctuate, it's supposed to, but if his numbers are better then great.
He's due for a oil change anyway, so start there.

You guys all love to spend money you don't have to, I don't get it.

Sorry, I shouldn't of put a question mark. I agree that a sensor is a waste of money, I honestly believe everyone's gauge acts like this, it is normal. Edited my last post to correct.

No problem.
Yes everyone's gauge acts like that, but his concern is how low it gets at hot idle. A higher quality motor oil will cure that.
My gauge is at 3/4 during hot idle, slightly higher at speed.
I have no idea what it was at when I bought the truck because the first thing I did was change the oil even though the dealer I bought it from had changed the oil before I bought it.

How does the engine sound? On my 1UZ, I get an audible tick if 1) the oil is .5 quart low, or 2) the oil starts to break down because it's cheap crap used through a long winter. I would imagine that if your pressure was too low, something wouldn't be getting lubricated properly and start making noise.

I now run Castrol 5w-30 high mileage semi-synthetic blend in my 1UZ and it sounds buttery smooth at 200k miles.
