1997, 3.4L v6, automatic in a 1995 4Runner. 4x4. Notice my oil pressure was low. This picture was taken after it was very warm, rolling between Jeff City and Independence. On start up, pressure is higher. At least above the lowest hash mark.

What could it be? I'm thinking an oil pressure sending unit.

Try pressure gauge first.

mine always drops after it's hot more so in the hot weather like we had this weekend. keep meaning to put a mechanical gauge but it's not high on the priority list. pressure is one of those things you have it or you don't. some is better than none more pressure does't really mean better. i don't know where the phrase originated but always heard old timer car guys refer to 10psi per 1k RPM. so idle 10psi cruising 20-30. most gauges normal is 60 and filter bypasses start occuring at 80 for cold starts and high RPM where the pump is pushing more oil.

Just put gear oil in it. ;)

I agree with Jess, it's probably most likely a function of wear on the main/rod bearings as a function of mileage/hours run. Nothing you can do for it except roll in new bearings. If you're concerned, put a mechanical gauge on there and validate what you're seeing on the dash.

I had a 1F that would drop down to almost nothing on the gauge at idle for 10 years, and was still running when I pulled it and put in a 2F.
