Just changed the source for my mechanical oil pressure gauge...and the pressure reading went up. Normal? (hoping so)
Back when I installed the rebuilt 2F block, I discovered that the threaded hole that was the oil pressure senders place on the LateF was not the oilpressure senders place on the 2F. So I bolted on a 2F oilcooler, just to get an oilpressure sender place...
...4 years later, yesterday to be exact, I finally got around to replacing the cooler with a normal oilfiltermount, that was tapped for an oilpressuresender. Now my (Autometer) oilpressure gauge reads 10 to 15 PSI higher than it used to.
So, is the pressure reading on a non-oilcoolered oilfilter mount higher because it comes earlier in the oilpath, or do I maybe have a piece of RTV stuck in a passage somewhere?

Greg

Since the oil cooler and oil filter mount in the same location, they would logically recieve the same pressure. Something else must have gotten jiggled along the way.

Now you have to worry that all that 'extra' pressure is gonna start a leak in your mechanical line!;p

Best

I didnt read if you installed a new gauge or still have the old one. im asuming its the old one if so your lucky more is better than less.

Did you bleed the air from the line that goes to the gauge? If you have air trapped in that line it can cause the reading to be off.

Question: I am about to finish the out of chassis rebuild on a 1980 vintage 2F. It doesn't have the threaded opening on the drivers side where I currently have my 1F mechanical gauge hooked to. On the new motor I removed the oil cooler so it doesn't currently have an oil pressure pickup point there either. What type of non-oil cooler oil filter mount did you get that has a port on it for oil pressure? Does anyone know if I can just drill and tap the same spot on the drivers side as the pre-76 motors to get my oil pressure hook up?

Drill and tap the oil filter bracket' that's what the factory did.;)

I was thinking of that too. Where would I drill it? Is it explainable or do you have a photo?

Mark, I also have a question for you regarding that 16 spline H41 you have. Can you check your PM's for it? Thanks-Randy

I was lucky enough to find an oilfilter mount that was already drilled & tapped for a sender. Assume it's a factory mount...
I believe that the oil cooler was first introduced in Ca, so perhaps an early 2F from outside of Ca would have the non-oilcoolered drilled&tapped oilfiltermount?
