Oil pan gasket aaaand.....

Hi all,

I will be replacing my 2F oil pan gasket soon. What else should I be considering while i've got the pan off?

I'd at least put a hand on all the rod big ends and push/pull/wiggle feeling for play. I would clean the oil pickup screen very well. Maybe clean the oil pressure relief valve.
Some people might pull a cap and look at a bearing, some people prefer to leave well enough alone.

When you have it off … check your rear main seal and your tranny bearing retainer seal for leaks

You may think the drip is the oil pan and find out it’s more

There are some great writeups on reinstalling the oil pan and new (hopefully one-piece) gasket. I believe that the string method here. by @Poser works well; as do the snap-ups here.

my experience is use a one piece gasket and the toyota brand fipg goo! no leaks. it might cost a few extra bucks but it’s worth not doing it twice!!

Yes, use ONLY the one piece gasket. Take special care of the ends, corners & all of the curves. With this job there is no such thing as ‘overkill’.
