The RIVAL looks like a really good skidplate for the money. Aluminum as well! Appears to be the right size and provide much easier access. Do you happen to have any pics of one installed on your rig?
I don't own it yet, but on the list for sure.
 
Looking to change the oil and filter, was going to switch to the Fumoto valve ... how difficult or involved is this gonna be with BudBuilt skids? Gonna have to drop, or can I get away with working in a tight space?
 
Pre install it is best to have something in place to direct oil flow downward as opposed to rearward flow. I used a plastic file folder curled to fit inside the skid opening, after new valve install this won't be necessary.

BB’s like most high quality skids have removable access doors for the filter and engine oil drain plug.
 
Yea, that part i know, Im more so looking at if ill have to remove it to get the fumoto on, or if with some luck ill be able to get it going.
I think you’ll have room enough to work but I’d think you’d likely get oil all over the top side of the skid. I guess if you’ve been changing your oil with out the valve and with the skids, then it will be no worse than that.

That's where the use of a semi flexible shield will direct the oil downward. If you don't do this the oil will certainly go on top of the skid plate.

Well, you gotta drain the oil to install the valve anyway, and that's where it will make a mess on top of the skid.

Get valve F103S


Then get the hose kit with the right angle fitting


Works perfectly with the access cover in the BB skid

I don’t have the nifty 90° elbow. But I do have some tubing I put over the bipple and let it flow over the edge of the skid into my plastic oil container. It works really well. There’s an alternative too. I can’t remember its name off hand, but similar idea to the fumoto but a different valve vs ball valve. HTH.

EZ oil drain valve.

These come on the Jowett oil filter cap and are what I use. Solid choice. They have a hose attachment and a screw on cap that has a o ring and would keep oil in the pan should the valve somehow get opened.
 
Personally, I like this style better. The lack of valve lever and a threaded cap makes it more fail safe IMO. Threading on the hose fitting opens the valve.

Agreed.

I put a Fumoto on my 100 series about 2 years ago, and a ValvoMax on my 200 last fall. The Fumoto is fine and I haven't had any issues out of it, but the design of the VM makes me sleep a little better at night knowing there's less chance of a failure due to something randomly knocking off the valve clip/lever

I have absolutely zero worry about an oil pan drain valve accidentally opening ;)

It removes every last drop of oil from the oil pan through the dip stick tube. The definition of easy-peasy.

No more than draining the oil through the drain plug. In other words, no, absolutely no stress on any engine seals.

The suction tube goes into the oil in the oil pan, then sucks until there is no oil left. All negative pressure is held in the collection chamber which is part of the extractor itself - no negative pressure is generated within the engine.

Open the fill cap.

Toyotas have smaller dipstick tubes than the Euros which most of those systems were originally designed for.. my Pela extractor won’t work with my Toyotas.

But if you get the right suction hose it is the best way to get all of the oil out of the engine. If a bit slow..

This. I use an extractor for my boat because getting to the actual drain plug located deep in the bilge is very difficult. The Volvo engines dipstick tube has a threaded cap that my extractor just threads onto so it really uses the dipstick tube as the suction tube. It’s pretty convenient, but it doesn’t get every last drop of oil out of the pan.
