Hey guys!

So I am about to do a ton of maintenance on my 97 super charged 80 and it's sent me down a wormhole.

I have read as many of the threads as I can find on here about oil separators dating back to early 2010s. I ready the back and fourth debates as to whether or not the catch can was necessary or not. I have sided with team catch can on this one so please don't yell at me. It seems like a nice way to filter out some unnecessary oil vapor/build up in my fresh intake.

So, my real question is: What is everyones favorite brand/model regardless of price? Many of the ones referenced in other threads are no longer around and the websites to the links are down. I noticed many folks using cheap pneumatic options with plastic/glass bowls. I tend to lean towards spending a bit more on something that looks a little better in the engine bay. Ultimately would like the best quality and looks, somethin that filters well and keeps the air flowing and not putting a strain on the system. Also something big enough that oil won't get drawn through when on steep incline. I know this has been discussed but its been quite a while so I thought I would bring it up for 2024!

Any tips/links would be greatly appreciated! It is hard to search for recommendations because almost everything on the market is for the turbodiesel motors...can we use the same catch cans?

Thanks!

I just revamped my engine bay last weekend. Been running a KK Moon cheapie catch can. Finally swapped to AN fittings w/ it vs the PCV valve. Put two check valves in instead(so I’m not accidentally pressurizing the crankcase somehow). 6AN on the old PCV side and 10AN on the breather. Made a little bracket that it sits on and the hose keeps it in place. Need either a 1/2” or 5/8” for the other one now but it’s much better than it was.

Did new plugs, wires, coil and distributor as well.

This just so happened to be posted yesterday.

Can you learn me what an AN fitting is? And any links or photos of the check valves? Does the in-line check valve serve the same function as the pcvs?

Saw that! Was worried it might be too small since they called out the disclaimer about super charged motors. Also mines high mileage and burns some oil, I wouldn’t be surprised if mine catches a fair amount of oil as some others have mentioned theirs does on mud.
