I stumbled on this article about oil additives, I''ve mentioned it in a couple of past post where some folks were swearing on how additives "improved performance" in their underpowered Cruiser.

This is a subscription only site for motorcycle nuts, (me). I don't think you'll be able to read any more than the first few paragraphs with out a subscription but the intro sums up this guys opinion on oil additives.

I'm just passing this on, I did not write it, so you can take up disagreements with the author, not me, please/thankyou.

anyway read away

If the link won't work I'll edit this post and delet the whole thing.

Only get the 1st paragraph & some junk about a spaghetti scooter.

I guess if your interested you can google the article, He says it's out there for free in cyberspace.

He is reviewing additives like SLICK 50, and the like of that..

I agree with him, if regular old oil don't work, you got other problems...

Kind of hard to buy into how he believes they are worthless without seeing the research...I personally have always used additives, I use the lucas engine oil additive, seems to work well; however, not sure of it's overall effectiveness.

Any others have opinions on additives, what you use...don't use...would never use?

text of entire article at: http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/..._Oil__Is_That_Additive_Really_A_Negative.html

i also endorse the Lucas Oil - Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. i have used the product for many years and have never had any problems with any engine that i have run it in. the approximately $ 6 / qt / oil change is not much when compared to the cost of an engine rebuild.

i was sold on the product when we first started using it in my business diesel trucks at every oil change. most of the trucks had already had a full life when they were purchased at auction. one of the mechanics that was at one of the auctions that had worked on the trucks there swore by it. he demonstrated the lubrication properties by dipping a slot head screw driver blade into some Lucas and challenged me to try to hold the screwdriver blade between my thumb and index finger. i could not... it slipped out no matter how hard i gripped it. the same was not true for any of the other standard engine oils that he had in the shop. also, the Lucas significantly reduced starting 'shudder' and smoke output on morning starts.

a good site to see this and other Lucas products at is: http://www.anythingtruck.com/performance_lucas.html

i would give Lucas a product endorsement and truly did see significantly better oil pressure in engines with high mileage when the oil stabilizer was added. not every opinion on the web agrees with my estimation. i have had good luck with all of their other products on that web page.

The screw driver bit was used by STP on TeeVee, in the southeast market back in the late 60s. Mario Andrette and some STP owner/scientist or Richard Petty, was standing around in a garage dipping the screwdriver in STP and trying to hold it. It couldn't be done!

no reason for relating that...just that Srplus's post reminded me of it..I used STP in my 1968 Camero, would shut those noisey lifters right up..for about 30 minutes...couldn't poor it if the outside temp was below about 40 dgr. stuff was too thick...yada, yada, yada...highjacked my own thread...sorry
