1981 BJ44V Moore County

Figured I'd post this here first to see if any locals are interested. I have to sell my 1981 BJ44V RHD, PS, PB, AC 85-90% rust free, 2B diesel engine runs great, 30 seconds smoke on a cold day start up. Tons of extra stuff (about $2k worth) including all new window and door seals, clutch and clutch plate, disk brake pads, half doors (incomplete), highlift jack, emblems, bikini top, hoses, filters, nuts and bolts and screws, original split rim spare with original tire, 2 extra aluminum rims same as on the truck.Royal purple oil changes with WIX filters every 5K km. PM for pics if interested or call me, Robert, 910-639-7358 and come drive and see it. Asking $20k. Would like to keep it in the state and maybe see it on the rd sometimes. Titled and registered here in NC, just passed safety inspection, has been my DD.

Forgot to mention I have a confer style roof rack made for a 40 that needs a little welding to fit the 44 and have 4 new brackets to go with it.

Having just had this truck here I can attest to it being a good truck. Drives well, and stops better than most of my cruisers for crying out loud.

Overall a good truck. Way out of my cheap ass league though.

^^^ Interested ... yes. Funds available ... nope. Good luck. It looks like a beauty ...

Rob why u selling?!!! Noooohhhhh! I hope you didn't intended to buy Sandy cause she just got shipped to the new owner in PA. Are you gonna get another cruiser?

On another note I'm shopping for some good 37" tires

37" tires for off-roading or street use?

Who in PA you sell sandy to? A GCLCNY member?

Well Johnny, for both. I can only afford one set for now and to make Burt a better all rounder I'm gonna downsize. Also I'm gonna need some help from you on a few things, I'll be in touch.

The guy that bought Sandy is in wetern PA and has a company called HonestAmish. Pretty cool stuff.

The Military tires I've got are real good on road, but the sidewall is weak, as you know. I'll have a set of steel rims for those tires, with the 6x5.5 lug pattern for sale in the near future if you'd like.

Those tires won't work for me. I need something with better snow and ice tread. Probably gonna end up getting new tires.

Does anyone have a passenger side fj62 rear view mirror. I will pay big money for one.

Those military tires that Jonny have are only 1 of 4 for the 16.5 size.

I've had the RT-II and the MTs that Johnny has. Neither were that great but the MTs are the only ones with sidewall problems and they are also a 30+ year old design. The RT-IIs were an even older design and were the only ones of the 4 that were bias ply. They were decent for the desert and rock wheeling I used to do in Cali but I never really tried them here before I replaced them with the MTs.

Look at the MTRs, which have great sidewalls and the are the same as any of the last gen Goodyear MTRs that were out before the new version dropped a few years ago. These ones do fairly well in snowy/icey conditions.

There is also the Baja TA from BFG that is a great tire but mostly for sand driving.

I'll see if I can dig up the reviews on them.

Here's a link for the BFGs to buy as well as the guard dog version of the MTR which is a retread, so i'm not sure how much i'd trust them as it all depends on the casing that was used.

i'll look for the MTRs for sale

Edit: ebay is full of them

There is also the 16" tires like the ones I have from the military but I know my XML's do good in all environments except snow and ice so those are out. I'm pretty sure the XZL like Jerry has and the XL are about the same on ice and snow.

Looks like a set of MTRs would be about $600

4 FJ60 chrome wheels with 31x10.50 Yokohama Geolander AT's (about 5000 miles on them). Rust on inside of rims and some minor rust on the chrome but not bad and look like they will clean up nice. $200

Spare tire lift Darin took off my FJ60. Rusty but serviceable. Free

Not looking to ship any of this so pick up in Broadway, NC

Would those wheels fit an 80?

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

Kenny, those are 15 inch rims and really small tires. Would look real funny under the 80.

The price is right though! ;p

I would like to find some street tires so I can drive the 80 more often and not just to the URE's. Anyone have any used BFG's that would be willing to trade for some 37" IROC's?
