Those military tires that Jonny have are only 1 of 4 for the 16.5 size.
I've had the RT-II and the MTs that Johnny has. Neither were that great but the MTs are the only ones with sidewall problems and they are also a 30+ year old design. The RT-IIs were an even older design and were the only ones of the 4 that were bias ply. They were decent for the desert and rock wheeling I used to do in Cali but I never really tried them here before I replaced them with the MTs.
Look at the MTRs, which have great sidewalls and the are the same as any of the last gen Goodyear MTRs that were out before the new version dropped a few years ago. These ones do fairly well in snowy/icey conditions.
There is also the Baja TA from BFG that is a great tire but mostly for sand driving.
I'll see if I can dig up the reviews on them.
Here's a link for the BFGs to buy as well as the guard dog version of the MTR which is a retread, so i'm not sure how much i'd trust them as it all depends on the casing that was used.

i'll look for the MTRs for sale
Edit: ebay is full of them

There is also the 16" tires like the ones I have from the military but I know my XML's do good in all environments except snow and ice so those are out. I'm pretty sure the XZL like Jerry has and the XL are about the same on ice and snow.
Looks like a set of MTRs would be about $600
They are good A/T tires and wouldn't look real stupid on an 80 for street but I think only early 80's came with 15x7 rims with 16's as an upgrade. They would likely be a backspacing/fit problem on the 80 rear brakes. If I didn't have new tires on my gooseneck I'd put them on that.
Are the military MTRs the same as the regular MTRs other than in size? If so, then that'd be a perfect all-around tire. Fairly cheap, good sidewall, etc.
I couldn't find info about whether or not those were the same as regular (non-military application) MTRs. I've had a set of the old MTRs before and I loved them. They were GREAT in snow. So good in fact that it made drifting difficult![]()
Greg. He is running either 37 / 39 inch tires on it right now with room to spare. That thing would be top heavy with them small ones of yours. Would make Daniel fun though.

I am looking for a single new or near new 315/75/16 BFG AT. I will consider more than one if the price is right.
I have several of the same tire but older and with 25% tread that I can trade or sell once I find at least one new one.
Also have 5 8x170 factory 16x8 SuperDuty alloy rims for sale.

Back up for sale is an H55F for a 1HZ motor. Included with the tranny is a new input shaft for the standard 2F motor. Box has about 130k on it and is in great shape. Have had the top cover off and everything is good with no play.
Currently at Darin's place.
$700 for local club peeps.
I've got the 39" super swampers on it now and will NOT do Daniel with anything smaller. My a$$ is still puckered from going up it at Logan's Run.
