Mr. Sheared Rear Shock Bolt himself talking smack. Well I never! Lets see... how many times have you sheared a rear shock on an LCDC (or LCDC adjacent) run with me?
  1. LCDC 6 - Fort Collins 2020 - Was it T33/ironclads on Friday or did you notice at the meetup for Storm Mountain on Saturday? I think I have a photo of @Markuson pulling the driver rear shock in the parking lot by the river.
  2. LCDC 7 - Ouray 2021 - Poughkeepsie Gulch - I definitely have a photo somewhere of you pulling the driver rear shock next to Lake Como
  3. LCDC 8 - Breckenridge 2022 - This was the post LCDC Ouray run where we came in via Engineer Pass/Mineral Creek from Breck and you pulled the shock in a Ouray parking lot after dinner. @kcjaz was a witness.
  4. LCDC 9 - Ft. Collins 2023 - I can't remember what you broke (not a rear shock?) but you were once again under your truck in a parking lot if memory serves. Like opening night? At the brewery? @linuxgod had to take you back to Denver to get a part while @laserturbo91, Gabe and I sat around in the middle of night guarding your rig?
I'll give you credit though, you never let a broken anything stop you.

PSA: If you see a Green 200 with Maryland plates in front of you and you have icon shocks... Choose a different line.

😂 Heh. Brutal!
I always admire the stick-to-itive-ness…no matter what breaks….again. :) And… I love @TheGrrrrr with his high-capacity memory banks. :) These TRULY are memorable weeks, whether built on a series of PITA moments…or sitting atop the mightiest truck-pose rocks in the 4wheel world. 👍🏼

I think the most impressive(?) thing was the Poughkeepsie Gulch year, not only did @laserturbo91 pull the broken shock at lunch on the trail. He completed the rest of the trail through Hurricane Pass and Corkscrew Gulch with no driver rear shock. Just wheeling on a spring like a bad mofo. If memory serves, he couldn’t track down a replacement and ended up getting a stock one in Tucson(!) for the ride back to the east coast.

Legendary status.

But wait, there’s more. LCDC8:

Rear tire took out a mail box. IIRC, two flat tries preceded this. The man is a Legend indeed.

We did rear brakes (and calipers) in the parking lot. One of the pads disintegrated upon removal. In Jeff's defense he was happy to pay Slee to swap them while he was there but they didn't have enough time (probably because they were tied up replacing my shocks at the last minute).

I'm just glad I haven't needed to break out the box of stick and the jumper cables to help anyone fix anything yet...

Hmm, I never got an email, even though I signed up for the list months ago— what do I need to do?

Funny, 2 years ago after Breckenridge LCDC we ended up behind a SAS group going up Imogene. They were going to let us go first, but it was only my daughters second trail (behind driving a part of Corkscrew the day before) so I told them to go first, and the leader told us to follow and radio him if we had any issues. I spotted my daughter from the passengers seat, and the tail gunner hung back a few times to make sure she made it through ok, even though we weren’t part of the group (or even a solid axle cruiser).

Honestly I was touched by how great the group was, especially given how we weren’t part of their group, weren’t trying to tag along, and were a bit slower than they were. So my message to the group: Certainly don’t try to crash someone else’s trails, but also don’t be surprised if other cruiserheads offer to spot you, let you follow them, take pics or videos for you, or stop to chat with you in town by all means at least thank them even if you can’t take them up on it.

(Pic that @reddog90 shot with me by the truck because driving out onto the edge was literally the only thing my daughter refused to do).

SAS8 is the following week so maybe I'll catch you again.

Right now we're there Sun 7/28 to Sat 8/3. LCDC is 7/29-8/1 so if you're around early look for us in town or up at Amphitheater campground. We'll likely bail early Saturday morning as I'll have a ~22 hour drive back

This is one of my greatest fears. If I’m the one suiting up to weld, something terrible has happened and you will hear me yell: “ok kiddos, I’ve never done this, but I’ve seen other people do it on YouTube. Fetch me my sunglasses, take cover and pray that a real man comes along before I get us all killed.”

Ditto.

Also since this sort of trail welding requires two 12V batteries I'm pretty sure if I did get it fixed I'd immediately find my truck wouldn't start.

My god! How did I forget about that? As word got around everyone just casually checked the torque on their lug nuts for the first time ever while smugly acting like they do it all the time. Or was that just me?

No one is able register yet.
Hang in there.

Heh… We’re all guilty of forgetting our own good advice...

Years ago after a long trip including LCDC… -On the long, solo, meandering drive home, I pulled of the pavement to snap a random landscape from the highway pullout.
-Opened my driver door and nearly STEPPED ON a lug nut on the pavement. Saw it and thought, “Hey! Someone lost a rare Rock Warrior spline nut!” Checked my own wheel…and yep. After a *1000 miles on the highway,* MY lugnut picked the bizarrely PERFECT moment to fall off front dtiver. Still blows me away…
—What are the odds????!!!??
🤷🏻‍♂️

Wait...there is a tourque spec for lug nuts?

I just seem to sheer the nuts off control arm bolts and destroy rear shock guards during lcdc then drive home 1000 miles before realizing it. Lol

I'll make sure I've things cleaned out this time around. I've no problem lending a hand, though I'd prefer to keep the excitement level down this time. Don't know where I'm staying or who's coming yet, but I've plenty of time to sort that out.

I'll be there on the 27th and planning to prerun some stuff Saturday and Sunday and I'll be staying the through the following Saturday and driving home Sunday so will have Fri & Sat on the back side to run around too. Perhaps we can connect.

I’ve been lucky to have escaped LCDC each year with no major damage. Cruise Moab is a different story.
though it was close letting @Markuson drive your rig on Miller Rock... :p
