Toyota Announces Prices For 2006 Land Cruiser

05/20/2005 Torrance, CA -

Toyota Motor Sales, USA Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the 2006 Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser full-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) will arrive at dealerships nationwide in June.

The Land Cruiser receives an engine upgrade for 2006 with the addition of variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to its 4.7L V8 engine. The new V8 powertrain delivers 275 horsepower, an increase of 40 over the 2005 model, and 332 lb.-ft. torque.

In addition to engine enhancements, the Land Cruiser also receives a standard tire pressure monitor system and optional hydraulic automatic height control (AHC). The new AHC system allows the driver to raise the vehicle on its suspension to negotiate particularly rough off-road terrain, and to lower it for easy entry and exit.

The 2006 Land Cruiser is distinguished by exterior trim enhancements that include a new grille, head lamps and tail lamps. Eighteen-inch high gloss alloy wheels are standard while a new rear spoiler is available.

The base MSRP for Land Cruiser is $55,815 and reflects an MSRP increase of $490, or 0.9 percent.

Yes, I think the AHC is a very worthwhile option. In a sense, the vehicle is safer. You can add lift when you need it but not have to run so much lift when on-road and thus have a lower center of gravity. The automatic height control is great when you are carrying load or towing. No more sagging in the rear or stink bug effect, like on an OME'd 80 series. The system is always leveling itself out.

Besides the added cost of repair, the only thing I can think of that's against it is that the damping rate of the shocks might not be a perfect match for OME higher rate springs (I'm still looking for people's experience with that) and the shocks are a fixed length--whereas you could probably get an extended travel shock for an LC.

Yep....that suspension repair cost is going to be ugly.
