Hey send a before/after picture if you got one. I have a 74, but heck if it's had that much love! Good stuff. BTW, do you get cruiser lean?

Yes, I owe pics. I just got off the phone with Canon...#$#&*%$#*$ warranty...

No lean...my OME springs and shocks have me level (I think I left that off the list....)

body lift

johnl,

i am just begining what you have apparently just completed, i have a 68 cruiser and 12 year old son, i have loved cruisers since i was a kid, i bought this rig about 4 years ago and until 3 weeks ago it has been driveway art. my son and i have begun to restore what is a a terriffic cruiser we have started disassembly, cleaning and painting of all parts from the doors forward, my question is what is a 1" body lift? i have read about different types of lift kits, since the rig does not have and will not have power steering swampers are out of the question so we do not want to spend all our dollars on a lift. what did the 1" lift accomplish? slightly larger tires? please explain, since you offered.

thanks in advance

The lift kit came from CCOT and was advertised as 1.5" lift. The PO has replaced the mounts with cut up pieces of tire, so the ride was harsh and there was little clearance between the tub and frame, certainly no cushioning.

THe kit added about 1" space between the tub and frame with urethane blocks and embedded threaded brackets. The kit was garbage...the threads were all gummed up with overflowed urethane from the manufacturing process and the bolts didn't reach where they needed to. Also, I needed to sawzall the brackets apart because the mounting locations are more offset from the edges than the brackets allow to reach.

The ride is more compliant now. My 31" tires look kinds on the small side. I'm sure I could fit 36" in there if I wanted to. THe rear qp would the limiting factor.

Hope that helps! Good luck on the project, its a great father-son one.

ok so what kind of lift did you install? if any. and how can i tell if this rig still has stock suspension, i am not sure what i am looking for. someone has spent time on this vehicle, it has a v-8 and while going through it we are noticing very little rust for a 30+ year old vehicle.

The body lift was ~1" total from the red urethane kit from coolcruisers.com.
The 2.5" extended shackles from coolcruisers give an effective 1.25 inches of lift.
The Old Man Emu springs give another ~2" lift.

Altogether the lift was about 4.5".

You can tell what kind of springs you have by the diameter of the bushing pivot holes. OME have big 'uns, stock have little 'uns. Don't recall the diameter off the top of my head. I didn't do the springs, those were done by the PO.
