This will be a place holder for the 80 subtank install. This will be the the second one that I’ve installed but it’s been 6 years since the first time. Some issues that I came across - petrol tanks are hard to come by. The fuel pickup for the petrol tank is discontinued. So your forced to modify the diesel fuel pickup (if you have a petrol one, pm me). The petrol sending (need that too) unit is still available but it’s not cheap - roughly $80. I can use both but will need to modify. George (Auxiliary tank) is still making his ECU.

Luckily the filler neck(petrol), tank, straps and switch arrived unharmed and within 7 days. Total cost minus pump, hoses, clamps, reducers and T’s was about $300.

Question - how can you tell the difference in filler neck version you have? I know the 96/97 are different but not sure how.

The diesel and petrol tank are the same. It’s the sending unit and fuel pickup that are different. Really very little diffence.

No doubt and great kit. I highly recommend based on all I heard. As stated, this is the second OEM sub tank I’ve had. I wanted to keep cost low and since I had experience with install, it makes sense for me.

Again, the LRA tank is the way I would have went had I not installed the OEM before.

If you travel it will pay for itself. My most recent 1200 mile trip Phoenix $2.49 , US border $2.98, Mexico $4.00, CA $3.59, Blythe $2.59 I was able to avoid CA gas prices again saving $35 on my last fill up alone.:clap:
 
I get it. I was in blythe last week and then had to put fuel in at Nyland, CA. I felt violated although it could have just been slab city rubbing off

Some picks. I welded up the diesel fuel pickup today. Leaving the 5/16” pickup open.

Does anyone know what wire does what on the diesel fuel sender?

Are you sure thats a pickup and not just a return? did you check if it went all the way to the bowl?
 
So.. now Im wondering why it has two pickups? why the smaller one?

"On a diesel tank there should also be a return line, since on the diesel the engine can draw fuel from either tank (so a return must exist). On the petrol it is a transfer system when fuel is transferred from the sub to the main, so only one fuel line (outlet) is required."

But if it does go all the way to the fuel bowl in the bottom of the tank it should work great!
 
It’s funny, I’m thinking the same thing. Luckily I can cut the plug and use it as is

Keep us posted, I also used a diesel tank and am using the larger fuel pickup for my transfer pump. Seems to work just fine most of the time, but sometimes it seems that it does not fully empty. I wonder if its loosing its prime with the bigger diameter tubing?
 
That’s exactly why I wanted to use the smaller line. Especially with the small carter fuel pump.

Well.. if you pulled it and checked if it goes all the way down like the main one.. use it!!
And let us ( me! ) know how it works!
