In Slee's instructions #5 It implies there is another atachment point above were the throttle cable attaches to the pedal??

Do I have that right?

There is only one part number for the pedal covering all the years.

Would someone be willing to post a pic of their hand throttle were it attaches to the gas pedal? Please.

I have the bracket with the three holes on the side of the gas pedal, but for the life of me I can not figure out attaching it to the gas pedal
Well thanks
Steven

If nobody beats me to it, I'll take a picture tomorrrow morning (it's evening here in Queensland) and post it up.

Thanks

Here you go. Two angles of the hand throttle cable attaching to the top of the gas pedal, one shot of the adjuster a few inches back from the top of the pedal.

Hope this helps. Without ever having looked at a pedal without the hand throttle attachment, I'm not sure where the hand throttle assembly stops and where the pedal begins.

I can tell you that the range of motion on the dashboard knob is about a 1/2 inch pull out and 1/4 inch rotation to the right to lock it in place. It definitely is a direct-drive pull on the top of the pedal, resulting in the pedal rocking on its fulcrum (so the footpad drops as if being depressed by a your foot).

Hope this helps and good luck. Let me know if you need more description or photos.

Keep in mind my LC is right hand drive.

You must be thinking about that backwards "L" shaped cable retainer holder. I bet that is the "top bracket on the gas pedal" in the Sleeoffroad instructions.

I believe you are right, now to see if mine has it.

I believe that this is what you are looking for. My 93 DOES NOT have that on the pedal. according to the catalog mid 91-up all use the same pedal part number (US). There is a different part number for the first few months of production, it may have that on it.

91-2(fj80's) do not have the attachment on the pedal for the HT, most the 93+ I have seen in person do, 97's have it for sure.

That is interesting information John. That conflicts with the parts catalog and my 93 That I know for a fact has the original pedal. It is possible that mine was built with the "wrong" pedal. I have never ordered a replacement pedal for anyone so I have not seen examples of either replacement part.

I would like members to examine their pedals and post a production date and weather or not the pedal has the bracket attached.

I had to source a new pedal for my 92(I think 10/91 production) when I did the HT, I can't recall if the other bracket(that holds the cable) was there or not, I think it was.

I considered swaping my 92 pedal for moms 97 pedal as hers had the mount.

US spec fj60's also have the attachement on the pedal, at least 86+

and of course 88-90 fj62's have it as they came stock with a HT

81-2 US spec 40's do not have the mount on pedal.

early 40-5's the HT went to the carb not the pedal.

I have had to make a couple for customers by cutting a piece of metal and welding it on, does not take much if you have a welder, The fine pictures will provide a great idea of what need to happen. I drilled a hole and used a hacksaw to cut the slot, then used small files to make the hole square of the right size for the cable attachement. all takes less then a hour. later robbie

Production Date = 6/93 and did NOT originally come with the bracket.

Now it does and good things because I use the throttle cable to raise the RPM up just slightly to quiet the rattling at stop lights. The last time I went out broke the exhaust hanger on a stump and pushed the pipe over and now it touches the frame and rattles at just the right RPM. I just haven’t had the chance to fix it, of coarse I could go in the garage now and fix it instead of typing this.

6/96 has both the backwards "L" on the pedal arm and the bracket on the firewall

found the rag joint on the steering shaft wile I was under there.

My 1982 FJ60 (prod late 1981) did not have it. My 1997 40th does have it.

I wonder if there is enough play in the entire length of the hand throttle cable to shorten the cable housing and loop the end of the cable itself around the top of the brake pedal ("lasso" it), maybe using a swaging tool and a lead or copper ferrule to hold the loop in place?

It would have to be done so the loop couldn't slide up and off(, or down which would might lock the pedal in "go" mode...and provide for a high rev start up...).

By the way the cable itself looks like good quality bicycle brake/derailleur cable, which might be a good alternative for any experimentation before attempting anything new with the OEM setup.

Dan I have to stop by the dealer to research a headlight issue this week, so I'll ask for a part number for the pedal to see if it is the same as your catalog's.

David

my 97 has it.
