October's event this year is the same as in years past, up to the Brown Mountain/Linville Falls area. Last year was a small group (Greg, Ramon, and myself) and we stayed at Mortimer campground. The campsite itself is out in the middle of nowhere, and it also gets locked up at 10pm. So, we can decide where we want to stay and who's in...

10 really isn't that bad..... still not sure why campsites get locked up at all. I would say i'm in but the last two years something has popped up at the last minute to stop that......

Well, to get to the overlook to look for the Brown Mountain Lights, actually look for them, drink so you can see them :D, and get back is a haul....

What about the group camp we stayed at 2 years ago... there wasn't a closing time on those

We'll have to call and reserve the group camp area, as it's not reservable online. That campsite will also book up fast in the fall so we don't want to dawdle, but they don't have hot showers if I remember correctly. Mortimer does, however.

I think they do... what was their name again??? I'll check the site.
To me being able to go out and come as you want without being in lock down is a bigger thing than a shower for a day...... i'm sure we can find one that does both though

Put my vote towards hot showers. If I come up on a Friday and camp for two nights, I personally hate not having access to a shower. Plus, me thinks the ladies and kiddos might opt out of more primitive conditions and since this isn't really a wheelin' trip to speak of, I wouldn't want to discourage the families.

I'll admit, it was a tough thing not being able to get back by 10 to Mortimer last year, because it was a dark, windy friggin' road - so, it would be nice if we found somewhere with both options.

Well i'm open to anything really. If we can find one with both that is close to brown mountain and the right price then good. If not then there may be two groups for this one at two different camp sites. If we go I know Andrea will want to see the Brown Mt lights.

I seem to remember there were showers at the linville one but their site isn't saying it. Anyway if there wasn't we still had plenty of kiddos and female folk :) that went without showers even after the hike. (but I remember taking a shower there so i'll call to double check)

I'll start searching for those with both.

If I can get my truck together, I may be down for this...
