I do agree about the 2UZ. That thing is a marvel. It's not that I don't like other Land Cruisers, I just have favorite children...and I know which buttons to push to get Dave's goat.

Before you pull the trigger on a 200, do a little research on 3UR cam tower leaks. Know where to look for this leak and make damn sure the truck you buy is not afflicted...yet.
My rig has ~150k on the clock (2011) and I can see the beginning of these. That said, I bought it with 130k on the clock for $27K with zero rust and pretty clean so I can live with it for now. I've done the stuff that seems to be crucial (starter, radiator, water pump & bracket, coolant valley leak) but still need to address the AHC fluid, trans fluid, etc.

Respectfully disagree. Any Land Cruiser is worth having (except maybe the 250 Prado, and the jury's still out on that). I personally love the 100 series, and it has the best engine Toyota ever built, the 2UZ. The 55 is just a bigger 40, and the 60 is essentially just a bigger version of the best of the 40 series trucks, the 80-83 FJ40. If I could only have one LC, it would be a 100 series. Will do, I'm aware of that issue and the valley plate leak and the radiator issues and will be keeping a close eye on them. My issue with a 100 series for my only vehicle (it would still be a great one) is that the newer cleaner example are still often asking a big premium for the age of the vehicle. I also want some of the modern safety and convivence features (IE Adaptive Cruise Control) you only get with a 200 series.

I will be there and I can drive my 570. @thecapedcapper you are welcome to take her for a spin.

Many thanks!

Understood. Be sure to research cam tower oil leaks and know where to look for issues before you buy. Valley plate and radiator coolant leaks are small potatoes in comparison. $$$$ to pull heads to fix cam tower leaks.

You all have a great one, I am still grounded for a while. See you in November

I bought my 2008 LX570 with 40k on it and never had cam tower leaks until well after 150k. I had heard that the leaks were only on a few years, due to bad installation process on the assembly line, but after mine started leaking, passenger side only) I came to the conclusion that it was age related. It has over 220k on it now, and the driver's side is still leak free.

The only gripe I ever had with it was that the design of the rear caliper is such that if you allow the pad to reach minimum thickness, the piston can pop out of the caliper. I lost a rotor because of this.

Oh, and I dropped my fob between the seat and console. Once. You'll only do that one time, I can assure you.

Wish I could make it, taking a client to the Hornets game tonight.

Re: 5.7 talk, we have a 2016 LC and a 2011 Tundra at the house, 130k on both and zero cam tower, valley plate, or radiator issues although they have great service history and aren't "high mileage". Cam towers from what I know are a rare issue (think IMS on early 996 Porsche, sub 5% affect rate but the internet panics about it), and even rarer on J-vin LC/LX.

@thecapedcapper I recently dove in to 200 ownership and if it's rust free, no cam tower or valley plate evidence, they're pretty hard to beat. I just proactively got an "updated" radiator for our 2016 in case the original gets the crack for $250 shipped via the Serra Toyota 25% off/free shipping campaign and will keep it in storage if the day comes. 200 is far and away the best daily LC I've driven after owning 60, 100 (2x), and now 200 (2x). Powertrain feels 3x the pep of a 2UZ.

I own a '17 Tundra, so I am rolling the dice on the 3UR as well. Mine only has 48K miles, so hopefully it will hold for a while. The power on tap is phenomenal, especially in Tow Mode, which I like to call "Beast Mode."
