Well in about 10 days The :princess:, myself and about 8 other friends are all headed out to Corolla for a week. We have a 6 bedroom rented in the 4x4 area. Myself and my brother will be bringing the two 40's. None of us have ever been to the outer banks and just wanted to ask if there is anything that I should absolutely do while out there. Thanks for the advice!!

Drink large quantities of beer.

The second I posted I thought to myself I better put something about drinking on there. Trust me its taken care of, not much beer but a whole bunch of Bourban!!! <---- Jim Beam :)

X 2 to the above, however be sure to follow all guidelines as far as beach driving goes. Guidlines have been revised due to recent vandalism to previously set wildlife boundaries.

I would recommend driving down highway 12 and going to see all the lighthouses and if you get a wild hair catch the ferry to Ocracoke and get that lighthouse too. If you do go down to Hatteras make sure to stop at Frisco Rod and Gun. Lots of beach driving. Airing down to 20 psi is recommended for sand driving and takes alot of strain off the drivetrain.

How about surf fishing (fishing license is required) and surfing? Wild hair recommendation would be kite surfing lessons in Buxton. It is #2 in the US for kite surfing behind Hawaii.

Man youll have a blast, Its been way to long since I've been there. The last time I was there the mosquitos were fierce, so you may want to take along some OFF as most of the stores there were sold out, but I dont think that happens there on a regular basis.

Thanks for the info, got the fishing license and the rods are ready to go. I really like the kite surfing idea I might check that out. Thanks again.

Got off and a Yard fogger for the deck. Thanks for the heads up.

they have all kinda kayak rental places if you want to paddle around. There are wild horses in the area there, so you can look at them. Jockey's Ridge offers hanggliding lessons on the sand dunes. The Wright Brothers memorial is there as well. There's the Downeast Rover in Manteo if you want some inshore sound sailing. Alligator River (other side of the sound) is a cool area off of hwy 64. Saw a huge gator in the ditch alongside the road.

Theres the Currituck Lighthouse near Corolla. Bodie Island lighthouse is just south of Nags Head on Hwy 12.You can go inside the keepers house and the base of the lighthouse tower. The Hatteras lighthouse is in Buxton. You can climb that one (its like 8.00 or so). They have a live webcam facing the base of the lighthouse there. You can have someone capture the picture of you standing out there if you can call them while youre there...There is also Pea Island wildlife refuge. It's the piece of land just south of the Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet. You cant drive on the beach there, and there are only a few areas with walkovers.

Ocracoke is a cool place. It would be a very very very long day to do a day trip from Corolla.

Second the Deep Woods Off. Also, take a box of Bounce dryer sheets. Put one on each corner of the porch/deck. You can also tie one thru the belt loop of your shorts. They do quite well at keeping the mosquitos and greenheads at bay.

Hopefully there'll be some good rains in Eastern Carolina before you go, otherwise you may need a gas mask. We were at OBX this weekend and went up to Nags Head north on 158 heading toward Corolla, and the smoke was so thick Saturday morning we turned around and headed back. Granted the winds can shift at any moment, but it was just miserable.

I didn't hear of any closings on the beach north of Corolla up where you're staying. There were some heading south, down by Avon. Very clever strategy by the econazis with the buffer zone, unless you want to ride in the ocean there is no through access here and there. Thankfully the park service has clearly marked the forbidden areas.

If I could make a suggestion, forego a case of beer or two and donate that money to the organizations fighting the closures. It was just amazing to get a sense of the anger and outrage and grassroots activity among those who live on OBX toward these closures.

Thanks everyone for the information. I really hope we the smoke isnt to bad. I could handle a couple days inside but I really hope were able to enjoy ourselves. Going to be the first time I trailer, i bought a 16' from Burke trailers a couple weeks ago. SOmeone on here recomended them and I am very impressed with the quality and the price couldn't be beat. I practiced some today. Lets just say backing up is well interesting. Thanks again for the advice!!!!

With any luck, I'll be heading back to Ocracoke next weekend for a little R&R. May come up on the Cedar Island ferry, and head home Sun/Mon via Hatteras. I'll make sure i do the cruiser wave to those i pass.

Remember to push up on the roof of the truck when crossing the Bonner Bridge. That way you hold the truck up, and it doesnt cause the bridge to collapse:D:D:D

Had a blast. First time for beach driving and the cruisers performed perfectly. A few pics from our trip.

The dune beige is mine, the mustard is my brothers. Still applying pressure on him to join the 2 local cruiser clubs. He actually just had it painted about a month ago. The Macco special and it actually came out really well.

Good looking pictures, glad to see you were able to experience beach driving...hopefully the agreement between parties will allow it for at least a few more years. Just sad to see the locals down on how it has and ultimately can/will effect them.

Two good looking cruisers.

A few more :)
