Killing time in G-boro, what better place to see such a wide variety of cars from model A to ‘17 McLaren. Had to share of note the FJ40 and LX470 up for auction. The FJ40 did not hit the reserve at $29k, looked very nicely built and professionally painted. The LX is well built with bolt on parts, nothing special but for the supercharger and the “free” rust as Stan pointed out, don’t forget the AMAZING hood scoop that hammered at $20.5k 🍻

I’ll upload more pics and take a sh!t-ton more tomorrow...

The grabber blue Boss 429 went for $190k. The green Healey is owned by an older gentleman who lives down the street from me. I’m pretty sure he wanted $67K for it. Not sure if he got it but it was worth every penny.

Is that Pollux Orange on that FJ40?

For those who don't know . . .like me - but I get a B- for searching the webs.
I’d call it Pollux orange, yeah. It was a decently done South American truck. Nathan and I nit picked it to death. Far from perfect, but pretty good overall. It didn’t hit its reserve. Highest bid was $27,000. It is still for sale AFAIK.

Dave gets the Eagle eye award this weekend. I do not have a photo, Nathan might. On the tops of the 40 leaf springs similar to the lettering you see on OME leaf springs the letters RSTUV then a star were stenciled. We all glazed right over it, like we were supposed to. Dave picked it out, that was just one of the lines on a stencil packet. RSTUV and we are betting the star was in with that same stencil pack. Never in a million years would that have occurred to me.

I planned to go. My wife's sitter, her sister, arrived late, gave me an insane time she had to leave, the traffic into the auction was THICK and I simply didn't have enough time to get in, look around and then return home in time. I had a free Hagerty ticket and really wanted to go this year. :censor:

Heather and I were interested in a 1992 Ford F250, extended cab 7.3L diesel with 37K miles and very clean. Whether we kept it for ourselves or flipped it. These types are popular around here in horse country as pulling rigs. Heather booked it and $5,800 seemed to be the consensus. We figured absolute hammer price, me $14K and Heather $13K. Turns out we were both right hammered at $27K. HOLY SH++!

LOL both right - love it!

A word on classic car auctions in general. So far , we have found that a good classic car auction is the best car show around. You get to go and see a huge array of really cool cars and trucks and on top of that, if you are feeling sporty about it you can even buy one, or two or.......

We are going to auctions right now trying to get a good read on where the general car market is and where it may be headed. We also spend a good amount of time pouring over car after car and looking at all the small details that when added up make or break a build. I come away with more ideas than I have time to fulfill them.

We intend to buy the right vehicle on the right day at the right price as they come along. The hard part is to keep emotion out of it and bid with only business in mind. Seems that Heather does not have the buying and selling of cars out of her system. I just plain enjoy the entire experience. We are looking for the deals and steals, watching incredible vehicles cross the block and have their fate decided in an average of two minutes thirty seconds is entertaining all on it's own. I come away with all kinds of little bits of information and build ideas that I hope I can translate into our own builds down the road.

If you are considering going to an auction, by all means do it. The more the merrier. The more eyes on any one vehicle the more little tidbits you will find. Jerry and I poured over a Jeepster he liked, pointing out all the little hits and misses, you know, because we are car guys, right. Meanwhile, Heather is standing behind the vehicle with a no go look on her face, holding up a finger with oil on it, straight from the tail pipe. Ahhhhh the humility, two self described car guys handed their lunch by a horse woman. The shame of it all :)

Don't let Heather see that you called her a "horse woman" given her car background. I think she would make life hard for you for a while, Stan!! :)

Stan, you are such a stallion...lol

We're good here Jamie, she takes being referred to as a horse woman a compliment. She has years of experience at auctions running 6-12 lanes at a time One lane and the way pre view is set up is easy for her. She picks up on the oddest little things for sure.
