OBD1 Hilux Dyno/Tune Resource? (1 Viewer)

Can anyone point me in the direction of getting a 90's Hilux tuned? The shop closest to me said "[they] wouldn't even know where to start"

So far haven't found anything online, and I'm currently at a loss.

These two comments on reddit make me believe it's possible though

The way to adjust these is by adjusting the fueling, ie turning the fueling screw on the injector pump. Take it to a diesel shop, especially if you turbo it.
Just saw that this is a 3Y-E engine. Are you sure its not a 4Y or just a carbed 3y? Wikipedia says that's the only one came in the Hilux.
Sounds like many people put turbos on them, see youtube.

remove the egr system and blank off the ends (either have a local shop make some or fabricate some yourself.

It's on the plate too, but here is the toyodiy for mine. I was told/read that they had a lot more options in Japan when ordering vehicle builds

Trying to maintain what little fuel efficiency it has with the 3y-e, it is thirsty

Seems a lot of this stuff about these engine are in ancient forums or pre-internet to a degree.
I can’t find build threads or anything. I’ve heard talking about putting a Subaru turbo on it or a 2lt. I thinks it’s less about the turbo and piping and more about the getting the manifolds and such sorted.

So I do believe a 4y head can bolt onto a 3y and there seems to be more info on the 4y and turbos for it. Or you supercharge it which seems to be what some South Africans have done with toyota 4agze charger and possibly celica supercharger
