Did a search and nothing like this came up.

Ofcourse this happens when I lend my truck to the wife's sister for a week. Got a frantic call from her, "...I don't know what happened. I hit a bump and the engine is making a loud noise! Oh my God the engine light is on! I pulled over on the highway because I don't want to blow up the truck." I was surprised that she pulled over because my wife would probably keep driving.

It turns out that the 1st O2 sensor was just hanging there. The 2 bolts are still on the exhaust pipe, but the nuts are gone. That's weird. The only thing I can think of is that the PO got it replaced and they didn't tighten the nuts. The weird thing is that there is a 2 piece metal strap tack welded to the exhaust immediately behind the O2 that is missing the top. It has 2 severly corred nuts that and it looks like the bolts snapped off.

I went out today and bought a new gasket and nuts from the Stealer.

Is this normal? Has it ever happened to anyone?

not sure if its normal, but then again anything that happens to me usually isnt.
I had the same thing occur on my 94.

I had this happen on my 96 with 98K on the odo .
The nuts rotted off and the O2 popped out .
I had a new O2 sensor and it made it alot easier to change just had to get a couple of nuts :D
