Has anybody run an NV3500 with a 5.7 350 and the 1968 40 series t-case?
I can't seem to find any NV4500 transmissions under $1000 anymore and I can't acquire the amount they seem to be going for in my area. 3k and up.
I can find an NV3500 every once in a while for around $600 but I don't know how well they hold up to V8 power and torque, especially in 4x4. I'm not rock crawling or anything but I will put it through more than normal stresses.
At the moment I have an SM465 with AA kit to the t-case.

Thanks

Idk anything about the nv3500. I think shipwreck over in the "Hardcore Corner" section used an ax15 with his sbc. You might checkout his thread.

What no speed goats? I see you have the bench set up for them. Nice rig. I just saw a nv3500 4WD on craiglist the other day don't remember the price. I'm thinking I might start looking for a 6 speed and what it takes to do that. But in the mean time I'd like to follow your progress with the nv3500.

I've seen an NV mated to the 'split case', with an adapter in between. There was an aftermarket disk for a parking brake behind it. It was intended for a SBC, so there was provisions for mounting it to the frame as well. The whole thing seemed to be about double the length of the H42 and tcase drivetrain it was replacing. The SOA 40 was due for a suspension change with axle needing to move out to accommodate the minimal rear driveshaft. The whole project was intense. To start with, the double-Cardan front and rear driveshafts required adjusting the spring perches, and resetting the caster on the front axle. This would have been at least the third cut-and-turn that front axle would have undergone.

At some point, I'd question the adapter for the transmission and transfer case, also the driveshaft parking brake, and look into a custom length Dana 60 driven by whatever transfer case was native to the NV.

This helps a lot. I think I'll go a different route. Thanks

Instead of trying to find a loose nv4500, I'd search for an old gm or dodge truck. Then take the tranny and part out the truck.

3.70 gearing? That would be solid with the V8 and 4-speed Muncie 465.

I'd get some solid numbers on the transmission. Advance Adapters makes a adapter for NV4500 to Toyota 3-speed case, or 'split case.' I think. It can't be that much longer than the existing set-up. However, 5-speeds adapted in are longer than what came with the '68. Maybe scoot the drivetrain forward a bit?

What are your goals? I don’t see that stated anywhere.

That is a deal of the century!

A mystery Craigslist $700 2wd nv4500 is the deal if the century ? I’ll sell you a 4wd one for $350. 😂

I love my sm465 4:11 37’s. I want less gear changing not more haha. Drove from Vancouver Canada to Pismo Beach Cali. Cruised the I-5 just fine for me. Not sure if it would be worth the expense to swap to that tranny. How would it compare to an h55f with split case. That might be another option if ya want a 5sd.

That would work too except for the cost.
