One by one, the reasons folks say the 70 series will never return to North America are falling away. The 2010 model 70 series in AUS now has airbags and is Euro4 emissions compliant. Top that with bluetooth and an ipod controller and this thing is ready for the malls!

Toyota beefs up workhorse LandCruiser in Australia

I always said I'd never buy another new vehicle - but if they came out with that here I'd buy it. Ya ya ya it isn't like the old ones, mall cruiser, 8.5 inch front end, lame dash, on and on - but I'd still buy one in a heart beat. I bet we'll be able to get one before 2015. But, if it comes with the gas engine then I won't touch it.

Hello,

Old school issues aside, I would buy it in a heartbit if available too.

Just read a travelogue last weekend where the writer complained about the Land Cruiser's lack of both ABS and airbag. He went on whining on the rough ride and the simple design, but in the end he conceded that after all is said and done, simplicity is best. The 2010 Cruiser is for him, I guess

The article made me think that these days everybody is spoiled.

Hello Wayne,

Certainly not you. My apologies.

I was referring to all those drivers who cannot even think about a car without air bags, ABS, on board electronics and related gadgets.

More and more people these days take all these features for granted, and complain when a car does not have them, hence the comment about them being spoiled.

The more they overdo the plumbing, the easier it is to clog it.

After a rather long stint in the tropics with manual steering trucks, both gas and diesel, power steering and air conditioning are all the creature comforts I need. That makes me a little spoiled, I think. Other than that, there is nothing like the tough simplicity of a Land Cruiser for me.

Built tough, and built to be repaired.

So Wayne, if it meets safety codes with the new bumper, and airbags, why would it still not be allowable here?

It really depends on the type of vehicle, if we're talking about a car for city/highway driving then bring on the electronic gizmos, ABS, awd, traction control, power everything, HID lights and so on, there's nothing wrong with technology if used properly and in the correct situations.

BUT if we're talking about a 4x4 vehicle, meant to be tough and to be used in expeditions, then keep it as simple as possible, EFI is were I draw the line and I can live with it,but ABS, air bags, traction control, power seats, etc. are just things that can malfunction on a trip, best case scenario it's an annoyance, worst case scenario it ruins your trip. That' why I like the 70 series and the 80 series, the last Land Cruisers to keep as simple as possible, A/C is a must for me though, it gets hot in here!

My 71 has power windows, which are convenient but can malfunction because of mud, water, etc. I'd rather have wind up ones, the power mirrors are cool and I really haven't heard of people having problems with them
, other than that, there isn't much that can malfunction and I like it! :flipoff2:

I knew it had to do with politics, which sucks, as I would love to be able to walk into the local dealer and buy one day :frown:

Hi All:

I for one would like the option to buy a current production utility series Land Cruiser in the USA, but doubt that Toyota North America will introduce it in this market.

Why? Because Toyota North America has invested millions of dollars in production facilities for the Tundra pick-up in the USA. Selling a 78 Series pick-up would dilute the Toyota brand, and not help re-coop the investment in the Tundra model.

:frown:

If you had wind up windows and non powers mirrors id bet you would see power bits on other cruisers and wish you had them:D or ill send you my manual gear for your elecs;)

That kind of gear would not suit you;)

I just wish they were affordable, the pricing here for one of these is insulting.:bang:
